Processing claims

Recently purchased this pet insurance with a few of the add-ons and just submitted 2 claims. Both claims were handled great and in a reasonable amount of time. Some improvement could be made in communication. An informational statement about time frame would be helpful. I understand that you cannot guess on how long a claim will take to process but a generic message about what happens once a claim is submitted would be great. Something like claims begin to be processed within 24 hours of submission and are resolved within 1-2 weeks.

Wonderful Pet Insurance

AKC has always been great at answering all of my questions when I call them regarding my claim forms. Sometimes the process can be pretty confusing for me and their always more than happy to walk me through everything. They also process the claim forms in a very timely manner and work well with the different Veterinarian clinics to get everything they need. I have been very pleased with them for almost 3 years now.

Don’t expect much back

Out of 4 claims, only one has paid ANYTHING back, and it was only a fraction of the costs. The first two were two separate claims that AKC claimed was a “pre-existing condition” even though it was an acute illness and then immediately another one with different symptoms. Even after a letter from the vet and full cooperation during the appeal process, they still kept the original decision. Exceedingly frustrated.

Monthly Cost

$5 – $90 depending on coverage options chosen.

Coverage

You have a co-pay of 20% after your annual deductible. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill.

Payout Limits

Per incident limit of $1,500 – $8,000 and annual limits of $3,000 – $16,000 depending on your chosen plan.

Deductible

Choose from $100 – $1,000 annual deductible.

Age Limits

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll with no upper age limit. Coverage options available for senior pets.

Waiting Period

Coverage goes into effect one day after enrollment. There is a 5-day wait period for accident claims and 14-day wait period for illness claims. AKC Pet Insurance provides 30 days of accident and illness insurance coverage included with AKC registration for newly registered puppies.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Customizable plans allow you to add-on coverage for inherited and congenital conditions, exam fees and wellness care. Cancer coverage included in base accident and illness plan.
