How to Save on Veterinary Costs at AVL Animal Urgent Care
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

You can compare coverage options from multiple providers to find a plan that fits your budget and your pet’s healthcare needs.
Getting to Know Your Veterinarian
Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.
Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour
If available, touring the clinic can help you and your pet feel more comfortable before the first visit.
Final Note
Pet care decisions often involve both medical and financial considerations. Having access to trusted veterinary information alongside pet insurance comparisons can help pet parents feel more confident when planning for their pet’s health and wellbeing.

Do not recommend! I had brought my kitten in yesterday. I knew something was really wrong with her. I was trying to find an option that was cheap but that could also get her the care that she needed. TO BE CLEAR to you once and for all DR ABRAM I do not , nor have I EVER had DRUGS in my house. The front desk person And the nurse that initially checked her out, were the most professional people there. They were kind and they tried to understand my situation. Sadly, Dr. Abrams did not , Where I do understand asking the initial question of are there any drugs that it could’ve gotten into? I believe that is a valid question to ask . But I do not appreciate basically being told that I had drugged my kitten. I say being told because throughout the entire visit, The personnel had asked if she was on drugs five times including the time where Dr. Abrams himself walked out to my car trying to check if everything was OK. And the person who was with me had asked “What’s the expected recovery time?” To which Dr. Abrams Replied “ well like I said if it’s thc it should wear off in a day or two” which by that point that was the fifth time and I felt like I had been accused of drugging my kitten and by that point I had told them that I don’t have drugs in the house. I don’t have drugs peroid .when all I went there for was help because I knew something was wrong and as a first time Cat owner I was terrified for my kitten’s health. I also got a bag full of stuff that I didn’t know I had to pay for because again I’m a first time cat owner, and my kitten and had never been to the vet before so I thought it was just a package to take home but was also never told that I would have to pay for those. In the bag, they sent me home with a dewormer ( which I and she didn’t need because she came from the humane society and they immediately vaccinate and deworm all there animals and I had mentioned she was up to date on everything) , three cans of wet food and a dry powder for the diarrhea that she had been having. I don’t know if I missed saying this or if it got looked over, but my kitten was not Taking anything orally, which is why I brought her in because I thought she might die of dehydration if they didn’t inject her with fluids. so in summary, I would not recommend this clinic because I feel like people took one look at me and said “oh yeah you drugged your cat” And that Fake perception that somebody made up cost my kitten her life I should have gone to the shelter where I got her from they would’ve provided way better healthcare than what I was provided ( or lack there of ) with yesterday. I’m extremely disappointed in the lack of professionalism. I saw yesterday. specifically from Dr. Abrams extremely disappointed and heartbroken that I had to bury my kitten the next morning because I got accused of drugging her!

I would recommend this clinic to absolutely anyone! The drs are beyond professional and genuinely try to help any animal that walks in that door. The staff are fantastic as well. Extremely affordable when compared to SAVES and VEG as far an urgent care goes. I have taken several of my animals here and will continue to when needed for any urgent care needs 10/10. Thank you all for what you do for this community!

Recently I had to bring my senior dog here after a dog attack late on a Sunday. They were able to see him immediately, do a thorough exam, showed me an estimate ahead of time and fixed him all up, and gave great discharge information. Every employee was extremely kind and understanding to me and Remi, and they called to check on him a few days later. A great alternative to an emergency room and great price, couldn't reccomend them more.

The staff was friendly and efficient, they quickly determined what was going on with my dog and did for a cost much more affordable than the emergency vet. Great place. Highly recommend.

Dr. Abrams is the best and took great care of our dog last week. We are so grateful for their expertise and care. I hope you don’t need an urgent vet visit, but highly recommended AVL Animal Urgent Care if you do.
