How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had a wonderful experience at UrgentVet in Oak Creek when I brought my dog, Lainey, in for a persistent cough and upper respiratory issues. From start to finish, the process was easy and stress-free. Scheduling the appointment online was simple, and I was very grateful to be seen so quickly. Dr. Otto was excellent. She took her time, listened carefully to my concerns, and thoroughly examined Lainey without pushing unnecessary tests. I appreciated her thoughtful and practical approach to care. The treatment plan and medications were explained clearly, and everything was provided promptly. The entire staff was kind, compassionate, and professional. They helped ease my anxiety and made both Lainey and me feel comfortable throughout the visit. The cost was also very reasonable, especially for urgent veterinary care. I highly recommend UrgentVet Oak Creek and am thankful for the excellent care Lainey received.

The staff at Urgent Vet were extremely professional, kind, and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone. We visited on Tuesday, March 31st at around 5:00pm. We were taken straight to a room and I had picked a check in time online before our visit. They were upfront about pricing, explained a high and low end for what may be necessary for the visit. They were very understanding with my nervous pup and talked through everything and how I could assist them with being able to look at what they needed to. There’s not enough words to explain how grateful I am for their compassion and care when we needed it.

The people there were so nice, Ariel helped us for the main stuff and she was so sweet, she took her time with my kitten so he could get comfortable. The vet explained things so well and made sure we had every question we needed answered. My kitten is already doing better. Definitely will come back for anything I need for him. We also loved the paintings and pictures on the walls of the animals, even one looked like my kitten.

The safe and care my dog received for a coyote bite was absolutely amazing! I will definitely keep going back for my urgent needs. The only down side was the “appointment” I made was not an appointment and did not matter at all. It is truly first come first serve and based on urgency. I was “scheduled” for 430pm wasn’t able to get into a room until 445pm did not see a tech until 545pm, did not see the vet until 615pm. I was pushed back in urgency because my dog was trying to run around and play when we got there. We were not done until 9pm. As my dog needed to be put under to get stitched up. I just wish the “appointment” situation was more transparent from the start. I don’t mind waiting, just a heads up before showing up would be nice. Other than that amazing staff and care! I felt like the price was fair for urgent vet needs. Hopefully I will never have to go back but will if I need to

Went in because my kitty was having urinary issues and Ariel and Dr.Otto were so amazing and kind with helping my sweet girl! Very attentive staff and they followed up with me via phone call the next day to see how she was doing and answer any questions. Extremely affordable for being an urgent care as well!
