How to Save Money at Woodlake Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Prakash Bommala is hands-down the most compassionate and skilled veterinarian we have ever visited. From the moment we walked in, his understanding nature was on full display—he was completely unbothered by Sgt. Ceaser's level of aggression, handling the situation with absolute confidence and calm. He made sure we received top-tier preventive care and all necessary vaccinations seamlessly. What truly sets him apart is the time he takes with his clients; he walked me through every detail to ensure I fully understood the next best steps for my pup's long-term health. If you are looking for an exceptional vet who delivers stellar care under any circumstances, this is the provider to choose!

Dr. PRAKASH and the Woodlake Pet Hospital team are the best in Houston! With Houston being the fourth largest city in the US, I will not take my pets anywhere but here. I am very selective about where I take my animals. Woodlake Pet Hospital exceeds my expectations. If you're thinking about where to take your pet I suggest you get this place a try. Dr Prakash has a heart for animals and is extremely knowledgeable in regards to their care. His staff is also very knowledgeable and thorough.

I am writing this review to warn any pet owner considering this clinic for dental work. They recently performed a dental procedure on my 4-year-old dog. Initially, they told my bf they needed to extract 8 teeth. He called and let them know to only pull the ones that need to absolutely need to be pulled. and they ultimately pulled NINE of them!!! That is so predatory. What makes this situation so concerning is that they charge a separate fee for each individual tooth extracted. This pricing structure creates a financial incentive that may not align with what is best for a young animal's health. To extract that many teeth from a dog who is only four years old is significant, and I feel the medical necessity was not clearly justified. A 4-year-old dog should not lose such a large number of teeth without a thorough explanation or a discussion of alternative treatments. I feel blindsided and no longer have trust in their medical judgment.I will not be returning to this clinic for any future procedures. Please consider seeking a second opinion elsewhere before committing to major dental work here. It is important to find a provider that prioritizes the long-term well-being of the pet. Also, they hug up on me when I inquired and didn’t ever speak with me before running my credit card. They should really check the name on the card before running it to make sure they match. Will not be coming back.

I bought my dog in last Thursday. Told Javier what I was there for and got a $298 estimate. Had the in-house meds removed and it went to approximately $73. When doctor enters he does not acknowledge me at all. Had to ask him his name and I think he said Bashir. Then he came back to yell at Javier for taking too long to teach me how to wash out my dog's ears because no one was at the front desk. Eyelashes had disappeared but this poor guy was all over the place. It all went south because I wanted written Rxs, not purchase meds with vet due to markups. He could have gotten me for more if he'd only had a bedside manner. Instead I had to run back and forth to Walgreens to keep asking for a written Rxs. I fell during the two trips back and reopened a wound on my knee. Terrible experience all around. And I will make sure everyone at my senior building knows about his attitude.

It was actually my first time going to this vet because I wanted to get my dog vaccinated since I had recently gotten him, and I also wanted to check if he had parasites or anything like that. He was already vaccinated, but I didn't trust the previous vet. When I arrived, I chose a package that included a consultation, several vaccinations, and deworming. When I went in, the doctor only told me that my dog had dirty ears. He drew blood, supposedly to check for parasites, but he didn't tell me anything else. They vaccinated him, and that was it. The doctor didn't even tell me if my puppy was okay. The consultation lasted no more than 5 minutes…I added that I also told them I went there because my dog had an unpleasant odor in his fur that wouldn't go away even after bathing him. They never gave me an answer about this, they never said anything. The doctor simply said his ears were dirty, they vaccinated him, and that was it. They didn't explain absolutely anything to me.
