How to Save Money at Voss Road Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

DO NOT BRING YOUR FUR BABY HERE! This place is extremely unprofessional. They do not deserve your hard earned money. First time I brought my dog here for boarding, he came back with a flea infestation! Each time we come for a visit, the fees are more than originally quoted. Dr. Kamal is unprofessional and when she makes an error, she won’t allow you to voice your concerns. Only she can speak. Brought him here to be boarded and he’s had diarrhea and been throwing up blood. They agreed to run his blood work and give him meds while waiving the fee for the lab work. I confirmed with Kamal the plan of action. After completing all the work agreed upon, I was met with a $500 bill and not the price originally quoted. I’ll never bring my dog here again. Additionally, the facility is filthy and they don’t take care of your pet well in your absence. Look elsewhere.

I took my dog Luna here because of itchy skin due to spring fleas. I was impressed by their thoroughness. They were extremely gentle and took the time to greet Luna before treatment to gain her trust. Left with good treatment options that have worked quickly.

I have been coming here since I moved to Houston in 2019. They have taken such great care of my pets. I have had to euthanize 3 cats over the last 3 years and they have shown such compassion. I have 2 cats that they love to see when they come in. I board them when I go away and have such confidence that they will be taken great care of. I love Dr. Kamal. She loves my animals!

I have been taking my pets to Voss Road Animal Clinic for years. It’s been there for decades. The vets there are kind and knowledgeable. I’ve had experience with Dr Kamal, Dr Hays, and Dr. Martin and they are all excellent. They are very gentle with your pet. Their prices are reasonable. I recommend them highly.

I brought my 8 yr. old Boston Terrier for blood work and check-up to see Dr. Z and am very pleased with how he handles things. We went to him the last appointment we had too for something else. My dog tends to get allergies and reactions sometimes, and I feel confident with Dr. Z. He is very knowledgeable and helpful in answering all my questions concerning my dog. This recent appointment, his Tech assistant was Aubry who was great. He understood everything that I needed to tell him and handled my dog great. I was so pleased with the visit. Have gone 2 more times recently since the above visit but for another reason. My dog had scratched his cornea. The first visit was with Dr. Z again and he knew exactly what to do and prescribe for treatment. I felt secure with how they handled my little Boston. I came back after 3 days, as per Dr. Z, to check his progress, in which I saw Dr. Kamal who was on duty that day. I was very pleased as well with how she handled everything. My dog is healing well. I go back in about 5 days to do a final check on the healing of his eye to make sure he does not need to continue the eye drop prescriptions. Had the final check and all good with his eyes. New review, different condition. In January my dog was acting like something was really bothering him physically. We thought he may have hurt himself so I brought him him to see Dr. Kamal. The first visit he wasn't showing all his symptoms and even though Dr. Kamal did a thorough exam and blood work, it was hard to pin point anything. So at first she suggested a couple of things one being a probiotic which was helping but then he started feeling bad again and when i brought him back in they were able to see what the symptoms looked like. She did an x-ray but that didn't show anything to explain what was going on so she prescribed muscle relaxers and steroids for a while and they really helped get him well! Dr. Kamal is very thorough and very knowledgeable answering any questions or concerns I had. She spends the time to do her best. I highly recommend her. New visit: This time went for my dog's annual visit with Dr. Kamal. I really appreciated her personally attending to my dog's needs. Dr. Kamal is great!
