How to Save Money at Safe Haven Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It's I been like my fourth week coming here for my chihuahua. His leg got broken, and the other clinics were way expensive. Even though I have to bring him every week for re-bandages, and exam until better. They explained my cost, and gave me a choice if I wanted to continue or not. For half the price as the others I continued, and he's getting better. Yes you have to get there early wait in line, but it's worth it for the reasonable price.

Staff seems caring. You're not able to go back with your pet. But someone does come out to speak with you before and after treatment. This is a low cost clinic which really makes a financial difference. Waiting room is spacious. Business days are Sunday - Wednesday walk-ins only. Thursday & Friday are by appointment only. Closed on Saturday. Hours are 10a - 3p. Would have given 5 stars...but in my experience...no one ever answers the phone. You can email with more success...and text with less success than email but more than with a phone call. Currently...there is construction on Old Spanish Trail...so be alert.

Benji is doing exceptional well. Sleeping and a few bites of food. The time of the surgery and discharge from the hospital was only a few hours. He has urinate or poop yet. Which is kind of expected, as a result of the inflammation. The overall process went extremely well. The staff was very organized and professional. The prices and after care and follow recovery procedures are exceptional and I highly recommend their services .

Pet Parents Beware!!! My beloved pet had a horrific dental experience here! I took my Yorkie in for multiple extractions. I dropped off at 8:15 am as instructed and told to pick up No later than 5pm. By 4:00 pm I had heard nothing and headed over because of the distance I live plus traffic. I arrived at 4:35pm and was told he had just been taken into his procedure….. What!!! My little dog was sitting in a cage all day with No food or water! He is going to be dehydrated and maybe hypoglycemic by then. Absolutely No communication whatsoever!!! The complete lack of mutual respect is unacceptable! At 6:00pm the procedure was completed and personnel handed him to me wet, bleeding from his mouth because of the multiple extractions and he could not even stand, walk, or sit up because he had just come out of anesthesia. He was in extreme pain all night, unstable, and bleeding from his mouth. I have Never had such a horrific experience! Not to mentioned the attitude the staff has….. the sour look on everyone’s face and the inability to utter any pleasantries or polite greeting. They act like they are doing you a favor. Well it is a hard NO! I will speak my truth and let everyone know to Beware!!! There are too many other pet clinics that will gladly be polite and it is pathetic I even have to mention this…. It should be automatic to be cordial but here it is Not. **** This was Not Agatha Rose’s experience it was Teddy Boo!!! He now has Bilateral maxillary fistulas caused by the extractions. Also, prior to this he had No coughing and had Not been diagnosed with a collapsed trachea. Pet Parents BEWARE!!! Do Not fall for excuses and deflection followed by a dash of gaslighting! Beware! Four words….. just don’t do it!!! ⚠️⚠️⚠️Update⚠️⚠️⚠️My beloved Teddy Boo passed away June 6 due to complications. He fought so hard! We miss you Teddy Boo!!!!!😭

I’m not sure if I’ve posted a review but I’ve been here with three of my dogs so far and wow. When I tell you it’s exceptional service every time, kindness, caring, knowledgeable and professional. I love safe haven and I’m so thankful they exist! :) they just did surgery on Luna and have dong surgery on my other dog Frankie. Both times have been great and have made us feel like they care:) Edit: I forgot to add that they’re extremely affordable.. I would have had to put down my dogs Frankie and Luna if it wasn’t for them because I was quoted way too much for emergency surgeries they needed to live. Safe haven truly cares about saving lives. They’re so empathetic, can’t say more great things. Thank you Dr. Crum and everyone in that office! Thank you for saving my dogs life!:)
