How to Save Money at Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Vintage Park

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very impressed with the intake of my dog during what I believed was an urgent situation. Staff were very helpful and calming and receptive to all our concerns. Our pup perked right up with the peanut butter test and all was better but do thank you for the quick attention, assertive care and cleanliness of Petfolk. Kudos for not pushing all unnecessary care and charges and ensuring the comfort in our care choices were sufficient for our little one. That means so much when you’re anxious about the health of your pup, to also not be taken advantage of.

Jazmyn and Dr. Abdel-Malek took care of my baby kitty so well! I wish I knew the names of the other techs who helped administer his shots so I could shout them out, too. Everyone was so thorough and ensured he got the care he needed. We'll be coming back (unfortunately, but also fortunately since the team is so wonderful) because he needs more care. I know he's feeling better already! Petfolk will be getting him back into tip-top shape. We'll see y'all very, very soon! Thank you again for your patience with all my questions and being so wonderful 💖 😸 Also, the facilities are lovely. Clean, private, great smell. The techs and doctors were all very welcoming and knowledgeable. The pricing is better than boutique veterinary clinics. Highly, highly recommend Petfolk! (Also they're open on Sundays!!)

What an incredible experience. I was really distressed when I brought my rottie in. He had managed to slice right above his paw (his ankle I guess?) open on a window that he tried to go through because a cat was taunting him. He cut a muscle and tendons and the vet team was BEYOND caring and made me feel a lot better about our whole situation. They also informed me about the insurance they offer that really helped in our situation, as well as, the follow ups. I highly recommend this vet company!

Our beloved Ladie (Lady) had not felt well for a little over a day so I found PETFOLK online because it was close by and bonus they had a promotion. Her current Vet was in surgery and couldn’t see her until later in the day. The facility is very nice and clean but the real reason for my 5 star review is the staff. I would give them more stars, if it was possible, on their care alone. Both the tech Louis and Dr. Nguyen were amazing (there was a second tech but I didn’t get her name because I mainly had Louis). They tried what they could, giving me options and transparent pricing, to save our sweet girl but unfortunately the best decision was to let her cross the rainbow bridge. Ladie gave us 14+ years of happiness so it was her time. I can’t thank them enough for making the process as easy as possible. They did not rush me at all on making the decision nor did they rush me in saying goodbye. I didn’t feel like I was just a payment, I felt they treated Ladie like she was their own throughout the whole visit. I can tell Dr. Nguyen provides care with her heart and not her pocket book. A special thank you to Louis, his kindness and sincerity was the reason I decided to write this review. I like my Vet but based on this experience PETFOLK will most likely become my new Vet with any future pets.

Update: I did speak to Danny a manager I believe and I’m not writing Petfolk off yet. Between her, and the amazing other reviews — i believe it was who was working that day and I strongly believe Danny will make sure it never happens again. Really not sure how they won any awards. I tried calling before racing my puppy dachshund in because she possibly was reacting to pesticides from the pest guy. As she was vomiting for over an hour, couldn’t sit up. Cyfair animal hospital our regular vet was closed so I had to find a place to take her. Called Petfolk no one answered so I took her in and explained the lady barely acknowledged what I said then had no urgency. Took my little puppy back to do who knows what cause she brought my puppy back to me and said ok 150$ for an exam I can put you in this room and when we get a chance we will see you. I asked if they were concerned and she said yeah put me in a room 10 mins went by and no one came. My girl was drooling, shaking and whining. I called pet life off spring cypress and they said come in we will see you. Wow! Completely different experience!! Urgent vet awards should all go to Petlife. Also better prices
