How to Save Money at Petcare Express

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Anna “Ania” - Wolf Girl

A Diagnostic Virtuoso: The "Mozart" of Veterinary Medicine As a retired Clinical Director who has spent a career hiring and evaluating medical professionals, I have an exceptionally high standard for clinical competence and professional integrity. For months, I searched for answers for my 123-pound gentle giant, Axel. I took him to several well-known clinics in Houston, but regrettably, they failed to find even the single mass I had discovered myself. They simply fumbled the opening statement. Then, I found Dr. Anna Parham at PetCare Express on Holcombe Boulevard. Dr. Parham is a true prodigy of her craft. While others relied on expensive overhead and corporate checklists, she used her hands and her clinical intuition—the soul of medicine that is clearly in her DNA. Within minutes, she identified three separate masses that the previous clinics had entirely missed. She performed a single FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration) to confirm the nature of the primary mass, while her expert clinical touch immediately identified the others as typical, benign lipomas. She gave us the unremarkable exam result we had been searching for. From the moment we walked into PetCare Express, the entire staff was exceptionally warm, friendly, and helpful. In a high-pressure field, their genuine caring and support created a seamless, stress-free environment for both me and my dog. Dr. Parham found in minutes what high-priced hospitals missed for months. She recognized a client who values quality and met that standard with an honest, transparent diagnosis. In a city of systemic predatory patterns, Dr. Anna Parham and the team at PetCare Express are a sanctuary of honesty. She is young, brilliant, and possesses a natural mastery of medicine that mirrors a virtuoso. Axel walked out a perfect patient, and I walked out knowing I have finally found the successor to the great legacy vets of Houston.

Over the past three weeks, we have brought our pets to this clinic and have noticed a significant change in the level of service compared to our previous experiences. When Dr. Parham (the father and owner) attended to our pet, the care was consistently excellent. We were able to request a private room, and he always took the time to speak with us directly, answer our questions thoroughly, and provide attentive, personalized care. Recently, however, our visits with Dr. Anna Parham have been quite different. We have repeatedly been told that our pet needs to be seen in the back, with little to no direct interaction with the veterinarian. Even when we request a room, we are informed that the clinic is too busy—despite the lobby and parking lot often appearing nearly empty. As pet owners, direct communication with the veterinarian is very important to us. The current process—relaying questions through a veterinary technician—can be frustrating and inefficient. It often results in incomplete answers and repeated back-and-forth, which adds unnecessary stress, especially when we have multiple concerns about our pet’s health. Additionally, we noticed that Jennifer is no longer with the clinic. She consistently provided outstanding service and went above and beyond to ensure both pets and owners felt comfortable and informed. Her absence is definitely felt. We truly value the level of care we previously received and hope the clinic can return to that standard of communication and attentiveness moving forward.

Really great experience with PetCare Express. The staff is super kind, knowledgeable, and takes the time to explain everything without being pushy. Dr. Anna is incredible—so compassionate and you can tell she truly cares. I also appreciate how honest they are and how affordable the care is compared to other places. The wait can be a bit long since they take walk-ins, but it’s definitely worth it. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a reliable vet in Houston.

So I paid a visit to this West Holcombe location yesterday with my 13 year old 7 lb dog. He had a small rash on his body from scratching. Never had one before The hair was totally gone from that area.. I have been going to the location since about 2013 with 2 small toy dogs for mainly the rabies shots and maybe an ear affection on the other dog. Never have I had a problem like I did except yesterday . They wait time was unbelievable I got there around 11:30 and never left until 5:30pm . No lunch , no water not even a crumb of food and I took an Uber 🤨 I was asked to pull a number which was 50 and the last person next to me was 51. I heard the desk clerk said this is the cut off time no more. They told me I could go somewhere for a couple of hours and they would call when my turn comes. Well! I had no where to go because I had no vehicle.. I told them I came by uber so I would sit and wait. Well! I waited and waited and waited and waited as I watched so many people come and go. What is so ironic they never call the number you pull . They come out and call names so you never know who is who and what number they are at 🤔 By the time they got to me they took my dog and asked me what was I here for. I told them the rash and slight wheezing. My goodness! The young lady came back out after awhile with a long laundry list of charges totalling over $200. She was talking so fast like a run away train . I had to say slow down 🙆🏽 Antibiotics! Allergy injection $62 heart worm test! Allergy fungus Shampoo Rabies and pravo shot with boarding shot package, heart worm pill for 30days even though with a negative test. Goodness! My head was spinning 🥴 I couldnt believe from a dermatologic skin rash I was told it could be a flee bite. Unbelievable! To just come up with some diagnosis and said we are not sure. Thank God there was no blood work because I would have left🤔 I got that bill down to $100 and look at some natural healings for dogs skin issues. I really admire this place for so many years with the dad . He was very friendly and sociable and didnt over bill unnecessarily I know times are changing and we are strapped in the USA with a horrible economy.. Electric Bills! Supplies! have to be paid and salararies and your service but dont take advantage 😒 Some people able and some of us have a desperate need for sometype of discretion I never got to go back with my dog or even meet the doctor. I was told its his daughter I will miss the dad Dearly. Now! Its money money money through pushing lots of products. You feel just like a hospital or doctor office visit . No different 🤦🏾🙏🏽
