How to Save Money at Northwest Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The Vets here are awesome! I had an emergency with my dog and they were able to see me in a reasonable amount of time even with a full schedule. The staff was very kind and caring. Both Dr. Vega and Dr. Hartford provided excellent care for our golden retriever who was in a lot of pain. I would trust them with all of my dogs here and plan on coming back.

The staff here are amazing! You can tell they all really love animals and this isn’t just a job for them. I brought My french bulldog here because she was very sick and couldn’t stop throwing up. She ended up getting emergency surgery to remove something she ate that was stuck. Dr. Alex and her team did an amazing job & took such good care of her . Crystara and Jerilyn also helped me & my frenchie alot during the process and with after care & made me feel comfortable during that hard time. Everyone there was very kind & welcoming. It’s been 2 weeks and my baby has healed and is doing great! I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m so happy I came here instead of anywhere else!

Dr MOLLY made me feel at ease immediately as soon as I came in with my noodle Mr. Tickles. Im so glad to have found an exotic vet close to me!! I don’t have a lot of sick FERRET experience so I was really worried about my guy after he had gone downhill quickly. She performed surgery to remove an impaction in his stomach and he is home and recovering. I am so grateful for their team! I’ll be back when he’s all better for a check. ❤️‍🩹🥰

Dr. Molly and her team took such great care of Tuesday, my cat. She had a diaphoretic hernia and almost all of her organs were in her chest cavity. They were able to get everything back where it belonged and fix the issue. They explained everything and made sure we were comfortable with her after care before we took her home. I highly recommend them! Thank you all so much!!

I started coming here in February after buying a house nearby, and I truly cannot say enough good things about this team. My first visit was with my rescue Yorkie, Rupert, who was found on the streets and ended up being diagnosed with severe heartworms. His treatment journey has been incredibly difficult and emotional, especially because I’ve had really painful experiences with a previous vet in the past that left me carrying a lot of fear and distrust. Because of that, I don’t want to single out one doctor or one vet tech... I’m grateful for the entire team. Every person here has made me feel heard, supported, and like my dogs genuinely matter. They’ve never made me feel rushed or dismissed, even when there haven’t been easy answers. They take time to explain options, talk through risks and benefits, and help me make informed decisions without pressure. I have four dogs and one currently going through heartworm treatment, so I’m there far more than I’d like to admit, but every visit reminds me why I trust them. No one can promise outcomes in veterinary medicine, but finding a team that truly cares and makes you feel like you’re not carrying it all alone means everything. 10/10. I’m so thankful to have found them.
