How to Save Money at EaDo Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I don’t usually leave bad reviews but I feel like I have to for this one. I’ve been coming to EaDo Veterinary for a couple of years now for both my dog and cat. I have never had issues bringing my dog but my cat is another story. He gets chronic ear infections and I’ve had to bring him a couple of times and have them take a look. The last time was a bit of a nightmare. The doctor ended up using a single dose medication that was way too strong for my cat (did my research and read that the single dose is only meant for dogs) and my cat had the worst reaction. He developed a tongue ulcer so bad that he couldn’t eat on his own and couldn’t bathe himself. He didn’t eat for days and when I took him back first thing on Monday (this happened over the weekend) the vet was asking “did he have this ulcer before?” like they hadn’t checked him a couple of days prior. I know they were aware that the medication is what gave him the ulcer. I was very calm about it and they cleaned his ear out and sent him home with medicine, not to mention I had to pay for the medication after THEY had caused his new issues. Anyways, even after all of this, I wanted to give them a second chance and when my cat started having issues again with his ear I called them first thing in the morning and asked them what to do, next steps or if I could even just pick up medicine. The lady on the phone said she’d reach out to the doctor and ask him and when I called midday yesterday she said she still hadn’t asked him. Anyways it’s day 2 and I still haven’t received a call back so I decided to take my cat elsewhere. I am just shocked at the lack of importance they give someone who has been coming for a while. Even just a call back for a quick update would’ve sufficed. It seems like this vet office is better for dogs and wouldn’t advice bringing your cats here.

My ~70 lb mixed breed dog has been dealing with a chronic ear infection, old age at 12 years old, and anxiety from our temporary relocation to Houston from Dallas. We've visited many vets through his lifetime, and we sort of accepted that there is very little we can do about his ear infections. This clinic changed that completely. They take the time to really get to know you and your pet and to really educate you on more than you even knew you needed to know. After only a week of treatment since our first visit, my dog's ear infection, anxiety, and mobility have all improved to the point that it's all hardly even noticeable now. ...and they don't nickel and dime you. I highly recommend this veterinary clinic and only wish now that they were DFW based since we'll only be here for a couple months. Dr. Farmer recognized that and proactively told me to call for advice or guidance any time. They treat you and your pet like their own family.

This was my first visit—and definitely my last. I had a scheduled appointment and was turned away at the door because they decided to prioritize another case and didn’t have enough staff. Emergencies happen, but completely dismissing a scheduled client with zero notice is unacceptable. No call ahead, no attempt to reschedule properly, no real solution—just a casual “come back later” after I had already gone out of my way to be there. That’s not how you run a professional practice. This clinic clearly does not respect people’s time. Completely disorganized and a total waste of my trip. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Dr. Farmer and his staff are fabulous! They are patient, listen to their clients and provide treatments, only when needed, in a kind and compassionate manner. I have peace of mind that there is a great team to care for my 3 furbabies!

My dog is turning 21 years this fall, and traveling to the Gulf Coast ophthalmologist for her glaucoma checks has become too hard on her. After calling several clinics near downtown Houston, I found only two with a tonometer to measure intraocular pressure—EaDo Veterinary Clinic was one of them. Dr. Farmer was exceptional. My dog is blind and terrified of males, especially in stressful vet environments. But he spoke in a soft, whisper-like tone that soothed her instantly. She usually trembles through appointments, but not in this visit. Now I am thinking of switching my cat's vet to EaDo vet.
