How to Save Money at Brittmoore Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Been a loyal client here for 40 years. The great vets on staff have always been super attentive and given my dogs targeted care with productive results. However ever since the clinic's corporate takeover the last two-three years in particular have had continual price increases, making responsible pet care almost unaffordable, especially for multiple pet owners, show breeders and SENIORS. Multiple pet households and SENIORS should IMO be considered for some kind of minor discounts but not holding breath for polite corporate consideration.

I am so very thankful to have Dr Rieman as our veterinarian. He is a knowledgeable, thorough, compassionate vet with a patient “let’s try this,” “let’s wait and see” confident approach when it’s appropriate in the treatment of our pets. Dr. James Rieman is very thorough, explains diagnosis well (particularly the ones you do not want to hear), and always a pleasure to visit with. He truly cares about my fur-babies and never rushes through an appointment, so I understand if I am seen later than my scheduled appointment time, it’s because he’s working with other clients in his compassionate way and I am fine with that. Trustworthy! I have been a long time client of Brittmoore Animal Hospital. They have never recommended unnecessary procedures or medications for my pets. They are knowledgeable, caring doctors that have always taken the time to clearly explain things to me and have always treated me and my pets with great integrity. There is a saying that I like that describes Brittmoore Animal Hospital perfectly: “Veterinarians don’t just treat animals, they treat the people who love them.”

We recently began visiting this clinic primarily due to their expertise with bulldog breeds. As French bulldog owners, we understand that this unique breed requires special care, particularly during surgeries. Our first visit was a few weeks ago for a dental procedure. As a concerned dog mom, I was anxious because my Frenchie had a low SPO2 during a previous surgery. However, Dr. Hodrick was incredibly attentive to my concerns and questions, putting me at ease about leaving Ramses for his procedure. Also, Ramses can have a little bit of an attitude when being restrained but I was told he was well behaved, which means the vibes there are top notch! But he handled everything exceptionally well and recovered quickly, even after four extractions. Plus, the pricing for the dental work was very reasonable; it’s clear you’re paying for top-notch care without being overcharged. We returned yesterday morning for an unexpected visit—something that happens frequently with Frenchies! Arriving as a walk-in at 7:30 AM, we wanted to be considerate, knowing how hectic the day can get. The staff welcomed us and informed us there would be a wait since appointments don’t start until 8 AM and that the were fully booked. I brought my work computer to pass the time, but we were brought into an exam room by 8:15 AM—impressive efficiency! Our baby Cairo was seen by Dr. Wetwiski, who conducted a thorough examination to identify the source of his pain, as I couldn’t pinpoint it myself. After assessing his injury, they performed X-rays and promptly shared the findings with us. I am genuinely impressed by their team. I wish I could remember the names of the technicians who assisted us; they were equally wonderful (apologies for not recalling—my focus was solely on our fur babies!). I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic not just to bulldog owners but to all pet owners!

I highly respect Brittmoore Animal Hospital for their commitment to pet health by hiring quality, highly knowledgeable professionals and staff. I've been a client since they artificially inseminated my standard poodle show dog in 2012. I believe they are highly qualified for the general care of animals, as well as some specialties such as reproduction. Every one of my breedings has led to happy success with my poodles, and Brittmoore is largely responsible for that. Additionally, their facility is very clean, roomy (not cramped), AND one of their best features is that their staff (everyone!) is so very welcoming, friendly & helpful! I consider myself and my poodles fortunate to have them in the corner of my 'babies'! I have nothing negative to say about them, and therefore, if you're looking for a great, top-notch Veterinary Clinic/Hospital, I do hope you'll give them a call!

My Boston terrier had very closed, pinched nostrils and struggled to breathe freely, especially after playing. She was also extremely noisy. My holistic vet referred us to Brittmoore. They really respected my time seeing that I live two hours away and had her procedure done in only two appointments. Dr. Gunter and her team took excellent care of my baby and she breathes better than ever now. In fact, it’s like she’s breathing for the first time in her life when we go outside, she wants to smell everything way more than before. It is very sweet and I love to see her so happy. It is odd to not hear her constantly grunting and snorting, but it’s very nice. If you have a dog with a compromised nasal/throat area I would not hesitate to turn over care to Brittmoore. Thank you Dr. Gunter and team.
