How to Save Money at Beltway Animal Hospital PC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have not been there in many years now . But Dr Burns is very very understanding especially with costs .yea she can be direct and rude .but maybe put yourself in her shoes. She has seen so many nightmares and animals die over people that should not ever own a animal. Also she took in many animals that were dumped ran over abused til she had to say no and stop .I didn't know she was still open . I may go see her sew if she remember us . Love her and Dr wagers in Crosby. The only vets we ever used . She we used for our cats and dogs but she's better with the felines lol and wagers for dogs and farm animals horses etc they both even seen my iguana and moms birds for us i can never thank them enough

Dr. Burn is an excellent veterinarian very straightforward personality & straight to the point. She will not lie just like many veterinarians do just to obtain your business. If you are a serious person about your pet's health then she is the correct vet for you just know her personality is not for everyone.

We went to Beltway a few hours ago today for two of our cats due to some skin concerns. They got checked, dewormer, antibiotic shot, a antibiotic cream to take home, flea meds, vaccine update for one and some at home treatment advice to clear up the issues. Dr. Burns has been our vet for a while now and she’s always been so super helpful, knowledgeable, kind, and very funny; we could never thank her enough for all she does and has done for us, she and her team are a huge blessing and we will continue to return her always.

Dr. Burns has been our vet for 25 years. She has loved our furr babies and treated them like her own. She has guided us through some of the hardest decisions with our pets. She is kind and compassionate. We have always appreciated her quick wit and “tell it like it is“ attitude. She is truly one of a kind.

Worst vet I’ve ever met. I asked her for her opinion on giving my dogs a certain medicine and she went crazy saying stuff like don’t tell her how to do her job and that she knows better than I do and she wouldn’t stop saying rude things til I left. She prescribed him meds and for 2 weeks there was no improvement. But as soon as I go to another vet to get the meds I asked the rude vet about, he felt so much better and shows great improvement! The doors, walls, counter tops, etc was completely saturated with signs saying weird things like “If you smell like marijuana (real or synthetic) do not come inside, the doctor went to the hospital due to the smell, etc” completely outlandish and inappropriate signs. I came here during the freeze and didn’t want to drive far but trust me, you and your pets are better off going elsewhere. All she did in my case was give me the worst case scenario as if my pet wouldn’t make it and the medicine didn’t help at all, and I got yelled at for no reason. I honestly couldn’t believe the things she said and it’s hard to even do or say anything when your pet is in her hands. Yeah no help here at all, just a loss of money and respect. If you love your pets, take them elsewhere!
