How to Save Money at Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Indian Land

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I really didn't want to have to write this review. The staff were nice and friendly, and I want to be fair about that. But the exam lasted maybe two to three minutes, if that, and they sent my dog home in the exact same condition I brought him in — still in pain and still discharging. Thank God we followed up with his regular vet, who immediately started him on intravenous antibiotics and fluids all day, which is what finally healed him. No one at Pet Folk ever mentioned antibiotics at all, whether by pill or IV. If we'd relied on this visit alone, my dog would still be suffering. Considering the condition of my dog, the report they sent was about 4-5 sentences at best. I'm so shocked. My dog's person vet report is 1-2 pages in full detail. Pet folk is in the business of making money not dog care. How do you not describe my dog's symptoms, his vital signs etc. Just horrible. Honestly, the run-around we got from the start from other pet smarts should have been a warning. The people were pleasant, but pleasant doesn't help when your pet is sent home no better than before. I'm grateful my dog is feeling much better now, no thanks to this visit but to his primary vet who kept him all day and monitored him. His primary vet also called two days in a row post IV to see how he is doing. I won't be returning to Pet Folk again.

Beautiful new location for pet care in the area - the team there is super nice and helpful. Any boy loved the openness and being able to stay with me during his visit!

My fiancé and I have two cats and both go to the Indian Land location. Petfolk was recommended to us by my boss and I cannot say I ever experienced a better vet experience. They are informative and super friendly. They treat you animals like family and always provides the best care. They also have taken time to share helpful ways to keep our animals engaged and healthy. I appreciate the kind hospitality to our animals always. They also have helpful plans to help keep your animals healthy while saving you some money. I would recommend Petfolk Indian Land to anyone with fur-babies!

Petfolk and Dr. Baracaldo are wonderful. The facility is spotless, the entire staff is welcoming and compassionate. I was able to get a same day appointment which was great. I have transferred care to Petfolk after being with a previous vet for six years. Highly recommend!

Run don't walk away run away. This place is horrible. Imagine bringing your dog in because he is bleeding. They offer a nausea pill in which he no longer has and mention fluids but not antibiotics. Keep in mind he has been bleeding two days in a row. They say it will have to run it's course. The pet visit itself was short and the report was a few sentences if that and did not describe the visit at all. I'm very grateful that I took my vet to his primary vet in which I was not able to go to over the weekend. Which is how I ended up at pet folk. Thank God for my dog's primary vet who started him on medication over two days and it cleared about the bleeding. I will never ever visit pet folk in any location or recommend pet folk. I will be submitting a complaint to the state. Don't believe these reviews. They have 4 or 5, 5 star reviews all in the same day. One of their people are just writing reviews. When I visit this location they 2 or 3 reviews. This place cares nothing for animals, they are not educated, and will send your dog home in the worst condition.
