How to Save Money at All Creatures Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely wonderful staff and facility! I brought my young turkey there because I suspected he was blind and they took perfect care of him. Unfortunately, he is leglly blind so no driving for Stevie, but he did get some meds for an eye infection. The facility is also so clean, smells nice and has super comfy padded seats in the rooms. Definitely recommend them!

This review is long overdue, but I just drove by this location earlier today while visiting a friend and remembered that I needed to write this review. Dr. Daniel is amazing. Right before she bought this location, she was at Animal Ark in Winston salem & had treated my greyhound, Crank, for an injured foot. Fast forward a few months & Crank had vomited blood on a random occasion. I tried to get him seen at animal ark ASAP, but they couldn’t see him for a few weeks. I was desperate to get him evaluated, so I hoped to schedule him at our previous vet that he had seen when we lived in Greensboro (which is now All Creatures.) Thankfully, I was able to schedule an appointment at All Creatures for the following day & Dr. Daniel called to let me know that she had actually treated Crank a few months prior and knew him :) I thought, “what a sweet twist of fate,” that he was going to get to see a familiar face. Unfortunately, Crank was diagnosed with lung cancer & ended up with about 8 weeks left before he let us know it was time. When that happened, I called All Creatures the first thing in the morning & Dr. Daniel ensured that she accommodated him that morning before her surgeries, for which I was so appreciative (because he had gone downhill so quickly.) Even though Crank was not a longtime patient of hers, Dr. Daniel & her staff made sure that he was treated with the dignity of an old friend. She is such a compassionate vet & went above and beyond. I often reflect and tell my husband that everything with Crank went as seamlessly as I could have hoped for in those circumstances I will forever be grateful to All Creatures & highly recommend this vet. Also, not to be macabre, but they use a service provider for pet remains that uses the Aquamation process, which I thought was really great. It’s an eco-friendly alternative to flame-based cremation & also results in more “ashes” of your pet to be returned to you.

I had a dog who had soft tissue sarcoma, she was also an old dog, and we were going to this place since it was Animal ark. Back then everything was a bit better. Last time I brought my dog to be seen and discuss what can be done to help my dog. I was considering a second surgery, but wanted more information. I was told I will get a call from Dr Daniel (who I didn't get to see at our visit), but after days, then weeks, nothing. I took my dog to another place and I am very happy I did. She passed away 2-3 months after but at least every time I had questions during these months I was able to get in the same day, see the actual doctor, and felt heard. The staff members are nice though.
