How to Save Money at Advanced Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been coming here for almost a year and have had nothing but good experiences with my 5 pets. 3 weeks ago, my 2 year old cat D'White began throwing up and stopped eating and drinking. I brought him in and Dr. Dieter ran blood tests and x-rays and we still couldn't tell what was wrong, after a very long week and a couple more x-rays, it was determined that he most likely had a blockage in his intestines that was hard to see on the x-rays. We tried to see if he would pass it over the weekend (he didn't) and ultimately decided to do exploratory surgery to remove whatever it was. I was beside myself the day of surgery but D'White pulled through and is now doing great and recovering well. Dr. Dieter truly saved D'White's life, and through this whole process has always been very friendly and professional. I appreciate that he would suggest next steps but I never felt like I was being pressured to do additional things. Ultimately, he determined what was going on and also performed a somewhat risky surgery with no issues. I will absolutely trust him with the care of my pets as long as I live in the Holiday area. The cost of care here is affordable and they are always upfront about prices and provide quotes before starting care. I had called an emergency vet at one point regarding D'White and was quoted $2500 for overnight care and a couple tests. Thankfully I was able to get D'White in to AVH the next day and they saved me thousands of dollars vs what I would have paid at the emergency vet. I don't want to forget to mention the rest of the staff either, everyone I have dealt with is always very upbeat and I never have to play phone tag when I call to make appointments or ask for updates. Alissa was very friendly and took amazing care of D'White during the days he was kept for monitoring. I can't thank them enough for saving my baby!

I brought my 10 month old kitten here to see Dr Scott Dieter due to her having a reaction from medication for her respiratory infection. During the visit due to my kitten needing her 2nd round of vaccines Dr Dieter administered the vaccinations WHILE SHE WAS SICK AND ON ANTIBIOTICS. We asked him multiple times before administering it if it’s a good idea due her still being sick and weak and he said she will be fine. We trusted in him and he gave her the vaccines. After we had brought her home and within 2 days she had rapidly declined. Due to the office being closed we had to rush her to an emergency care center , where we were told she was in critical condition and she no longer has any red blood cells. At only 10 months old she was now urinating on herself and barely able to stand due to dr dieters carelessness. At only 10 months old her life was cut short. I highly do not recommend anyone looking for care in Dr Dieter. Due to his malpractice we now have to suffer the death of our kitten who we should have had years of laughs , play time , silly memories and cuddles with .

We have been taking our dogs here for the last 20 years. We have always seen Dr Kern, and she is great. She is very compassionate and helpful. Last year we saw Dr Dieter when our smaller dog torn a ligament in his back leg. Dr Dieter did surgery on my doggie and I happy to report that it's like nothing ever happened. My dog is running, jumping without any issues. It wasn't cheap but it was reasonable, especially compared to what I was quoted by another vet. Thank you

I visited this hospital after calling last minute, I got home and my 10 y/o female Olde English Buldoggee had really bad diarrhea, they had me in within 30 minutes, Dr. Kern checked her thoroughly and made her recommendation, she also offered treatment for a long lasting allergy related ear problem, she requested past records from another clinic, it’s now been 1 week, her stomach is a lot better and so is her ear. This will be my dogs clinic from now on, staff is great, prices are accessible and while waiting in the car outside on my second visit I saw the staff coming in and out of the office greet everyone by their first name, very personalized service, I love it and so far I love the expertise and customer service skills Dr. Kern provides. I highly recommend this hospital you will not be disappointed.
