How to Save Money at Lopez Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The service at this clinic is incredible. It is hard to find people nowadays who wants to do things from the heart and they definitely do. Dr. Lopez is an incredible human being and someone who cares for your dog and not just looking to make money. We have to put our beloved great Dane down after months of cancer suffering and the Doc was there form the heart. I will never forget the feeling of both of us carrying my 150lbs baby. Thank you Doc, God bless your team.

My experience at Lopez Animal Clinic was unfortunately very mixed. While the veterinarians were kind and professional when they saw my dog, the overall experience — especially the front desk service — left a lot to be desired. From my first visit, the receptionist was not welcoming and provided incomplete information about the services. I was trying to understand what options were available for my sick dog, but I felt rushed and dismissed. Basic questions were answered reluctantly, and I did not feel properly informed. After my visit, the clinic followed up to check on my dog, which I appreciated. However, during one of those follow-up calls, the receptionist called me in English. When I responded in Spanish, she hung up on me. I then called back and spoke in English, and only then were we able to have a normal conversation. This felt unnecessary and unprofessional, especially since clear communication is very important when discussing a pet’s health. Additionally, I followed the treatment instructions exactly as provided, but unfortunately my dog did not improve. This made the overall experience even more disappointing. The most frustrating situation happened during my follow-up appointment scheduled for 12:30 PM. I adjusted my schedule to arrive on time. When I arrived, I was not greeted or acknowledged. I sat and waited while other clients were assisted. No one informed me of any delay or even asked me to wait. After already waiting 30 minutes, I approached the desk to remind them that I had a 12:30 appointment. Even then, there was no urgency or clear explanation. I was told that all rooms were full and that there were still people waiting outside, despite me having a scheduled appointment. At that point, I felt that my time was not being respected. I understand clinics can get busy, but having an appointment should mean something. A simple greeting, acknowledgment, or update would have made a big difference. To make matters worse, the prices were quite high, especially considering the level of service provided. For a clinic charging premium prices, I expected better communication, professionalism, and overall customer service — which unfortunately was not the case. While the veterinarians themselves were polite and caring, the high prices, poor front desk service, communication issues, long wait despite having an appointment, and lack of improvement after treatment made this experience disappointing overall. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Lopez Animal Clinic.

I just I can write a big THANKS and rate 5 stars review, if I could, I rate it 10 stars. Dr Lopez is the best of the best, I can attest it, very nice and professional doctor, answers all questions with patience and deep knowledge; very accessible facility's parking, very clean clinic, front desk clerk very nice...ok, now my story: my 1.5 year Old English Bulldog was diagnosed with a very serious life-threatening condition, Diaphragmatic Hernia, which very few vet doctor dare to treat. Dr Lopez just took the case, performed a extraordinary surgically procedure and repaired the hole in the chest of my dog. So, he saved his life literally. Is the best vet experience that you'll receive in South Florida...so, yes , HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I honestly was so pleased with doctor, He was amazing with my fur baby he took his time to give her a check up. She had an ear infection and he took the time to show me how to properly apply her medicine, she was all better in week. The prices are much better compared to other vet office I’ve looked into. The doctor and his staff truly care for these animals. I would tell anyone to take their fur babies here you’ll get nothing but great service!
