How to Save Money at Robertson Vet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat Rocky is normally scared to be at the vet but my poor baby had an abscess that ruptured and needed immediate attention. I found Roberson Vet Clinic from Reddit reviews and they lived up to the expectations! They are easy to get a hold of, caring about the patient, Rocky was so good with them, as Dr. Roberson and the vet tech assistant were very sweet and professional! Couldn’t recommend them more!

This is the best vet clinic in town, hands down. Our old vet told us our girl dog might have cancerous sarcoma in a fast growing bump on her rump and needed surgery ASAP -- but they were booked out for months. They recommended we find someone else to do the surgery. We were devastated by the diagnosis and felt the time crunch to find a "non-corporate" veterinarian. Fortunately, my wife mentioned our issue to a total stranger who recommended Robertson Vet Clinic. The clinic scheduled us for an evaluation and confirmed she'd need surgery ASAP - which they scheduled for the following week. The quote was fair. The surgery went fantastically. They periodically called to check in to make sure our girl was recovering well. We recently got the results that the lump was cancerous sarcoma - but the margins were properly excised - an amazing result. To be fair, even before the surgery or biopsy results, we were so impressed with Robertson Vet Clinic we made the decision to switch our girl, as well as her dog sister and cat sister over to the clinic. The veterinarian and staff were all so kind, caring, responsive and knowledgeable - it truly feels like we found a hidden gem. I can't recommend Robertson Vet Clinic enough.

Wonderful Veterinary office! Staff and vets are amazing. I have an accident prone goose and have taken her to Robertson's twice now to be looked at. Both times they have gotten her in quickly and taken great care of her. I love how they are calm and they even get down on the floor to make her less nervous. I'm very thankful they see wtaerfowl/ poultry since very few vets offices do. I can't say enough good things about them!

I changed to this vet recently and I really have enjoyed the warmth and personability of all the staff there. They have the cutest "Welcome In!" board at the front where they list every pet who is coming in's name, and just seeing that for the first time made me know I was at a clinic that really values what they do and that they put in a little more effort than others. Dr. Robertson is a phenomenal veterinarian, and when she talks to you, she genuinely listens and gives you her time - I've had other experiences where the doctor seems disinterested, or rushes through your appointment to get to the next, but Dr. Robertson sat beside me as I went through an entire list of questions about my cat and waited patiently as I typed all her replies and answers down. I will be staying with Robertson because I know they care about me and my cat equally.

This is our first experience with a mobile vet, but being a disabled couple with no way to transport our German Shepherd or Tabby kitty, this was an absolute godsend for us. Everybody was incredibly nice and helpful, and our very un socialized dog did amazingly well. Dr. Robertson is incredibly sweet and patient, and she made the animals feel so comfortable and at ease. Her accompanying staff were so nice and everything was just flawless. We cannot tell you how much we appreciate everything, we are so very grateful and we are definitely so glad to know that we now have a vet that we can trust and believe in to take care of our babies.
