How to Save Money at Community Care Veterinary Specialists/ER

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

1000 stars!!!! I have never seen so much passion from so many employees period, any workplace at that. From the front desk especially Sara and all the way to the vets themselves. I can’t say enough about the people that work here. Our big baby boy Great Dane Apollo had to have emergency surgery, we didn’t think we were taking him home. Their professional, knowledge, skilled and kindness gave us a lot of hope and thanks to them he is now home recovering. Thank you all that helped us in our worst of times. We Can never repay for what you gave us. Dr Sammy and the surgical team, you’re the best!

I can’t say enough about this practice! I have brought my two dogs into CCVM and have experienced the oncology, surgical, and emergency care team. You can tell from the moment you step in how much each person cares, from the front desk staff (shoutout to Sierra!), to the CVTs, to the doctors. Even when the patient parents aren’t around, the staff all truly cares for each patient (I hung around CCVM all day waiting for my dogs surgery so I was looking and listening!). Affordable care and they really try to find solutions even to people that can’t afford care. I even donated some meds from my dog that passed and they all took the time to write a sweet card about how other patients were able to use the items. 10/10!

I am so deeply grateful to Dr. Alex Fox Alvarez and the entire team for the incredible care they gave Cookie during her splenectomy and lobectomy. From the moment we walked in, they treated her with such compassion and gentleness, and they took the time to answer all my questions and to reassure me every step of the way. What truly meant the most was how much they cared not just for Cookie, but for me as well. Their follow-up and support made such a difference during a very stressful time. Seeing Cookie back to her happy, energetic self—running around like nothing ever happened—is the greatest gift. I truly can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for us. You made a difficult experience so much easier, and I will always be grateful.

After spending many hours and late nights here with 2 of my cats I think I can make a solid review. I can't imagine getting veterinary emergency care anywhere else now. After I moved, I ended up driving almost 4 hours to get care here a second time because the other vets in my area were clueless and not helpful. Working with the amazing doctors, wonderful techs, and sweet reception staff, I was able to get a real plan and testing in place that saved my furbaby who was extremely sick when I adopted him. I especially love the comfortable private waiting rooms and that I was able to visit with my other cat during his blood transfusions. The care here is top notch and thorough, I just can't recommend Community Care enough. I would give 100 stars.

The oncology and emergency staff, especially Dr. Fox helped my Shih Tzu recover and live a much longer and happier life since his lymphoma diagnosis. They did the best care for him, and extended his life for 2 more years until he was 14 (which was much better than our expectations). I am so incredibly grateful for the people who work there for being so proactive and successful at doing the best treatments while making him comfortable simultaneously. These people helped me so much emotionally with my dog as well, and I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who needs emergency care or treatments for their companions.
