How to Save Money at Bayshore Animal Hospital: Lisa Neuman, D.V.M. and Vanessa Richards, D.V.M.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been seeing Dr Neuman since I was 18. I will not go into detail of how long that has been but I followed her from Miracle mile. Today was an extra special occasion and I hope she sees this. Last year, almost to the day, we lost our precious Penelope! Penelope was with Dr Neuman her entire life. Well the time came and we had to make the decision to put her to sleep. We didn’t know Dr Neuman had retired and it was a quite devastating experience but we made it through. We then faced the decision to make the long journey from our home for the rest of our animals care over the next few months, would we continue to bring our animals here or find elsewhere? We live about 45 minutes away. So we did. Anyhow, we recently decided to get a puppy and she loves Dr Flannigan. We walked through the door and I almost passed out like I had seen a ghost! It was Dr Neuman in the back. I wanted to tell her everything but I just tried to stay calm. Not over load her with all the emotions from all the fuzzies and occasional feathers memories that came to me! Today we had our pups last round of distemper and we had Dr Neuman! It was a small celebration of the life of Penelope and welcoming this new kid to our family! Again I couldn’t express all the emotion that has happened over the last year, how much she has meant to my life with my animals, my little family. There’s an impact that certain doctors must not realize they make, how they change you, how they educate you, how they actually make a difference. We do not know how long she will be visiting out of retirement but are very happy to to see her again. All of our animals have their own doctors and the doctors all make each one feel special. This is the type of place that makes you realize animals still matter to others as well. Thank you for such a great team

Dr. Neuman is our primary vet and I will tell you that this ENTIRE staff treats us just like family. Our 'kids' love them and so do we!! Each and every person from the front desk staff knowing us when we come in or even call...to the techs like Ashley who also know us and treat us so very well. Even Dr. Richards knows our boys and they just adore the treatment and attention they receive when we need to visit (so do us parents). The staff is always empathetic (even when my anxiety goes haywire) and they are 'go out of their way' helpful to us. You have a customer for life with us and our boys!! Thanks for all that you do Dr. Neuman!!

We highly recommend both Dr Neuman and Dr Richard’s. We’ve had our much loved pets as patients of theirs for many years and will continue to recommend them to all. They’re kind and loving with the animals and the owners. Thank you for all you do!

Doctor Newman and Doctor Richards are the kindest and most caring doctors I have ever met. I highly and strongly suggest if you are looking for a veterinarian this Is the place. Being extremely knowledgeable and courteous and willing to help with anything. They are extremely passionate and caring with the animals while being sympathetic and empathetic with Their clients. My dog gets excited when I say let's go to the vet.

We had a Vet up in Winter Haven who in our humble opinion is the best Vet on the planet. Dr. Loren Nations says "My life revolves around my family and animals. They are one and the same, that is who I am and why I am so passionate about being a veterinarian.” I say that to preface my review of Dr. Lisa Neuman. When we moved here to North Fort Myers, we went in search of a great Veterinarian. My wife and I agree, Dr. Neuman sits right up there with Dr. Nations. She is absolutely the best. Her care and attitude is top notch. We have three "kids" and she has taken care of all of them. She is the epitome of how a vet should treat the fur babies that come in. She is top two in our opinion. The staff at Bayshore Animal Hospital mirror her caring attitude and love for their jobs. We consider ourselves fortunate to have found them. Thank you for everything you do.
