How to Save Money at Salty Paws Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our cat hasn’t been eating for a few days and did not have a good time at the ER. Salty Paws took us in, the day I called for a visit, and we aren’t patients with them. They were so kind and sweet with our terrified cat. Dr. Wilson was absolutely amazing. Very transparent and extremely caring. She treated our cat as if she were her own. The visit was great and I will be returning here for regular checkups with my cat.

I can't say enough good things about Salty Paws Animal Hospital! We are fairly new to the area and I have been researching different vets and we decided to try Salty Paws best decision ever! From the moment we arrived, we were met with genuine compassion and politeness from every staff member. You can tell they truly love what they do and are passionate about animals. The facility itself is very clean and which is a huge relief. They clearly take pride in keeping everything tidy and sanitary. It’s a comfortable and welcoming environment for both pets and their humans. What truly sets Salty Paws apart is the care and attention they give to every detail. We especially appreciate their unique check-in process. You can go straight from the parking lot into an examination room, completely avoiding a crowded waiting area and any other pets. This is a game-changer for pets who get nervous around others! It makes the whole experience so much less stressful. I was extremely pleased with the cost, very reasonable! If you're looking for an amazing vet, Salty Paws is the place to go! PS Paige was our Tech and was AWESOME!

We had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Rogers & Dr. Peter at separate appointments with our fur babes who all have completely different personalities and each was loved and cared for equally. We appreciated the time spent with each 4 legged friend. Every tech we met so far has also been wonderful and the front of house staff was equally great both on the phone & in person. Added brownie points with having an exam room you can access from the parking lot, awesome idea & brought my stress level down while bringing one of my boys to be seen.

Not to be dramatic but this place restored my faith in veterinary care. My pitbull very unexpectedly went paralyzed and needed immediate spinal surgery. Salty paws did NOT do her surgery (we didn’t know about them yet) but instead we got the run around from different “animal hospitals” and wound up having to take her to somewhere almost 2 hours away. Our experience with multiple other vets seemed like they cared a whole lot… until I paid them… then getting an answer on her intensive recovery took forever. We called salty paws to help with a procedure so that we didn’t have to drive her so far and they were SO LOVING , paid such attention to detail, and just overall cared so so much. This will now be the only vet I go to for my 3 dogs and cat in the future. I’m so grateful for their kind hearts after an extremely stressful and emotional week.

I cannot rave about this place enough. They are kind, caring, accommodating, reasonable and compassionate. I made an appt to bring my 17 year old dog to be put down, but later on I realized I couldn't make the time of that appt. They were booked solid, they spoke with the doctors to see if they could squeeze us in and they did, I couldnt be more thankful because it was a Friday and would be closed for the weekend. They cared enough about our feelings and made it work. I am forever grateful.
