How to Save Money at Animal Health Center of East Palatka

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I don’t have the words to even begin telling everyone how great East Palatka Animal Hospital is. I moved to Palatka in August and needed to establish care for my two 15 year old mini doxies. I was quick to get in and get appointments for both. I then decided it was a dire need to get a lump removal surgery from the chest on my boy Doxie. They were fair priced and did an amazing job, he got his second chance at life and was so much happier he could run around again! Shortly after my little girl Doxie became sick, even though it was the hardest decision I ever made to say goodbye everyone was so compassionate and made us feel loved. Vicki and the front desk ladies were amazing through it all. I have to thank Dr. Maxwell for finally finding out what was making my sweet girl so sick. I have had both my pups for 16 years and they are my heart so it has been the worse month, but East Palatka Animal hospital have made the transition so much easier. From a personally signed card from all the staff to receiving a card that a tree was planted in Aoifes name by the Arbor Day Foundation. I can’t say thank you enough, I never wanted to see that day but you truly have made it easier.

Love Dr. Smith. Propably 1 of the kindest vets I've ever met. Makes the time to explain whats going on. Has called me on phone to check on my dog. Just a awesome vet who truely loves animals and wants to help them. The staff is always nice and helpful. Busy office. I wish he did farm visits for horses as large animal vets are needed desperately where I live.

Amazing place to go!! Dr. Smith is our vet for our 2 frenchies. He is absolutely amazing!! He knows that these are my children and treats them with such compassion and honesty!! With that being said, my mom just recently passed, and I have been in New Jersey for almost a year, taking care of her. Honey my service dog and eldest child got a problem with her anal gland and finally it bursted!! I called Dr Smith cause I was not happy with how everything was going, it bursted and was a hole, then about 1 week later it rebursted in about a inch, and wasn't showing signs of getting better this was with the antibiotic the vet here prescribed. I called the office and told the girls what was happening and they said he would call me!! He did the next morning and told me she needed different antibiotics. DR Smith got the vet here in NJ to prescribe different antibiotics and within 5 days, my baby was healing!! Dr. Smith thank you from the bottom of my ❤️ heart taking the time to call me, and taking care of my girl!! You are 1 in a million!!!

Great staff, friendly, accommodating. I could be happier with our visit. My kitty is a little bit of a cranky boy. They worked with us to ensure he was comfortable. Everyone was great from check in, the nurse, the doctor and the front desk staff.

100% recommend... our great Pyrenees lived to 12 1/2. It was so hard to port ways but it was unfortunately her time. The staff is amazing, so empathetic and understanding and did the best to support us. Tears all around. I want to think the entire staff and will recommend all pet help to this wonderful group of people.
