How to Save Money at Pro Pet Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Fonseca is wonderful! He is an exceptional professional, he diagnosed my cat when other veterinarians couldn’t. He treats his patients and their pet parents with genuine care. Everyone at the clinic is kind and professional. I highly recommend this clinic and its staff, they are amazing!

On July 30th, 2025, I took my dog to Pro Pet Animal Clinic. Everything was going fine until I asked what medication was used to clean his ear and what they used to sedate him, because he screamed desperately during the procedure — it was heartbreaking to witness. When I asked Dr. Eduardo Fonseca, he replied, “Are you a doctor?” — a response I found unnecessary and unprofessional, especially considering I was emotionally exhausted and had not slept for days caring for my sick dog. Later, I called the clinic to express that I didn’t appreciate his response. He said he had already told me, but at no point was the name of the medication mentioned. When I asked why my dog cried out like that, I was told “French bulldogs are noisy dogs”, as if that explained his pain — I found this dismissive and lacking empathy. The receptionist also told me to “take advantage because the doctor is retiring soon,” which only added to my confusion. To be fair, I understand the doctor is human — maybe he had a bad day, or perhaps he felt offended by my question. Still, I believe there are more compassionate ways to interact with pet owners who come in genuinely worried about their animals. On the positive side, I’m thankful that this was the first clinic that actually took my dog’s symptoms seriously. After visiting three other vets who insisted it was a neurological issue, here they finally diagnosed him with otitis. I’m grateful for the correct diagnosis, but I truly hope the clinic improves communication and sensitivity toward clients. We trust you with beings we love like family. I took Chonsito in for his ear infection, and while the treatment was correct and he’s now fine, the overall experience was negative. During the procedure, he cried out in pain, and I witnessed his suffering; they told me I wasn’t in the room to be a witness, which is a very weak excuse, because just hearing him cry already makes me a witness—I know every sound my dog makes. From the start, there was bad energy; when I asked for the name of the sedation medication they used, they rudely asked if I was a veterinarian. They also corrected me on how I was holding Chonsito. On top of that, they refused to make an appointment for my boyfriend for another dog that isn’t mine. The only positive was that the doctor called a week later to check on Chonsito, showing that he does care. However, the receptionist is very unfriendly and lacks customer service skills, so if you’re planning to bring your pet here, think carefully and stay alert.

Current Update: I wish a Vet like this one to everyone. High standards, excellence, professional, compassionate, thorough. I trust them whole heartedly!! Update: Well it's now been many years. I couldn't be happier. This clinic is like family to me and all my Furbabies. Oscar just had his well check-up. What a blessing to have such knowledgeable loving Dr and staff. This is the second time I've been here and I am satisfied with their kind service and surely recommend them! Dr and staff genuinely love animals. They take the time and listen to your concerns. Sonny the cat and Jubi gives it 👍 It's now been several years coming here and I feel just the same. Just brought Oscar due to some coughing on the weekend but he hasn't coughed today so it's definitely his allergies again. Everyone there loves my little Oscar. Time had gone by again. Just had Oscar & Maddie here for their visit. Jubi & Mia have been put to rest..my old girls 😞 Dr Fonseca is a true gem.

If there was a no star I would go ahead and put it seeing how when you go on go on the website on Google it says that they're taking new patients and you can spayed and neuter your animals for cheap and every time I called there's somebody telling me something different they don't ever take new patients I'm so confused and this is false advertisement I would put zero stars for this place then she proceeded to tell me that other vets use their names online.... Very very upsetting 😔
