How to Save Money at Pine Ridge Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely wonderful. I had an emergency at an ER vet clinic a few days prior and was finally able to get in to Pine Ridge for so much needed blood work and analysis and hands-down. The staff is absolutely amazing. Gemma says thank you

The vet and staff here are amazing. I don't have "traditional" pets. I have 2 pilgrim goslings (baby geese) and they got a bit sick, so trying to find anyone that can treat them is like a needle in a haystack. They not only took them in quickly. They took the time and effort to do all they can to help my babies get better along with answering this worried mommas questions. Pine ridge is now my avian vet.

We didnt have a vet for our furry friends and we had a medical issue/emergency, and Pine Ridge took us in, nwithout a call or appt. No problem. Since then, they have been caring for our family. The staff is wonderful, caring, responsive, they follow up and genuinely care.

Back in the summer of 2020, when Riley was still just a pup, we were over a mile deep on one of a nearby preserve's secluded scrub oak-lined trails. We had been hiking for well over an hour and had stopped to rest under a shady canopy of cypress trees, when he was struck in the leg by a pygmy rattlesnake. A nice and quiet therapeutic hike through a well-trodden hydric hammock had now become a nightmare; and the joy of going in so far to achieve remoteness, solitude and peace had become the very thing that would mean the opposite and our undoing. The same distance that had brought refuge became a vast divide. My best friend took a few steps, defecated himself and collapsed. The familiar wetland that felt like sanctuary had suddenly turned on us and what once healed the soul became a source of panic and struggle. I picked his limp body up and lifted him onto my shoulders and began the long trek back as fast as I could. At first, adrenaline made him feel light—almost weightless—but within minutes, every step became heavier. I remember stopping, kneeling with him still on my shoulders, counting to ten just to keep going, then pushing forward in short bursts of running and walking. My legs felt like they were failing me, but there was no choice but to keep moving. No one was coming for us. He suddenly felt like dead weight, and I remember feeling him urinate down my back. I thought he was dead, but I kept talking to him and trying to reassure him (and myself) as I walked/ran, tears and sweat down the front of me and urine down the back of me. I remember fumbling for my cell and calling a nearby vet clinic during one of those ten second pauses. They told me he would need antivenom they didn’t have, but they contacted a sister clinic..they told me to get him to Pine Ridge as fast as I could. That call gave me a second wind and I kept moving. I was in a state of sheer panic at this point and very distressed that I couldn't take the time to stop and check on him. I didn’t know if he was even still alive. I just knew I couldn’t stop. After about 30 minutes, I finally emerged from the green maze of cypress and marsh that had taken us over an hour to disappear into. I finally reached the Jeep and was relieved to find he was still with me. I don’t even remember the drive, only arriving and seeing they were already outside waiting for us. They rushed him inside and saved his life. It was a traumatic experience for both of us, but what could have become a tragedy was met with quick action, skill and compassion; keeping me updated hourly of his progress. Our story had a happy ending that day because of Pine Ridge Pet Clinic-which is why I wanted to share it. That day was one of the worst of our lives and how Dr Forrest responded to it cemented my confidence in her completely, and I knew I never wanted anyone else caring for him. That would be the first time you saved him—but not the last. From a rattlesnake bite, to HGE, pancreatitis, surgery for suspected obstruction, to navigating diagnostics and coordinating specialty care for orthopedic issues, chronic GI concerns, and cancer—you have helped carry him as well through so much. Thank you to Dr Forrest, Lisa, and also to support staff Nicole, Erin and Elaine, & everyone else who have played a part in his care -there are no small parts when the goal and end result is my best friend's quality of life. Thank you for treating the patient, not just the condition, for accomodating and meeting a fearful boy with patience, and making each visit a success for him. Compassion and standard of care mean more than I can properly express. When I walk through your door, I am entrusting you with everything that matters to me. And time and again, when I come in with fear and uncertainty, you meet it with calm, care, and steady hands. Thank you for your continued dedication to Riley’s health and well-being through every stage and giving us the gift of more time together. You have made an immeasurable difference in both Riley’s life and mine.

I cannot say enough good things about this veterinary team. Over the past week, my dog Beans went through a very scary medical situation, and throughout the entire process they treated both of us with an incredible amount of compassion, patience, and genuine care. What stood out most to me was that they didn’t just treat my dog and send us on our way. Every morning when they open, they call to check on Beans and see how she’s recovering. That level of dedication is something I’ve never experienced before. During one of the most stressful times I’ve had as a pet owner, knowing that her veterinary team truly cared about her progress meant more than I can put into words. They took the time to answer my questions, explain my options, and support me through difficult decisions without judgment. Their kindness, empathy, and commitment to their patients are extraordinary. Beans is recovering, and I will always be grateful for the care and support we received. If you’re looking for a veterinary team that genuinely loves animals and treats pet owners like family, this is the place. Thank you for everything you’ve done for Beans and for me. You are the kind of people who make a real difference. 🫶🏻🩵
