How to Save Money at Faithful Friends Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My furbaby was neglected, I picked her up covered in feces, she had been in a cage for more than 4hrs from the moment I was notified her teeth cleaning was over, and hours more prior when I dropped her off early morning. She is a service animal and docile, easily kept and obeys all commnds. Upon my arrival the atrocious odor of fecal matter filled the kennel she was kept in and she herself was covered in feces. It was liquid compacted dried to her butt and she had been stepping in it. I told the desk clerk I needed a hose, that this was unacceptable to take her home or put her in ny car in this condition. Secretary refused any help until eventually offering a baby wipe. So incredibly ineffective a baby wipe was in this situation, it was comical to me the audacity and assuredness of the Secretary. I planted refusing to leave until she was rinsed off. After several minutes of arguing about a sink that was clearly for washing dogs off in, that she stated couldn't be used because it was for surgery only. Then a tech comes into the back room and offers common sense and says the sink can be used to clean my dog. Then the Secretary asks me if I would like to pick up my dog, whom is covered in feces and place her on the table or would she need to do it. I just stared at her, it took everything in me to remain a non violent person or to raise my voice so livid about the entire situation. The Secretary helps the tech lift my dog into the sink, they get her rinsed in the forbidden sink and I take my dog straight home, and get her into a bath, where I discovered a handful of of large adult fleas. My baby doesn't have fleas, and there was zero flea dander to suggest any existed priot without my knowledge. I held myself back from writing this review until days later, a painful choking cough came from my furbaby which had her gagging and frothing spit. I took her to an emergency vet. 1400$ Xrays, antibiotics and steroids later, she has finally recovered from the ordeal. Clearly the dog that was next to my baby in the kennels was sick and flea infested. There was no oversight for protection of my baby, and she was neglected, left without bathroom breaks and not observed for signs of life after being sedated. This cost me out of pocket so much money and time, I couldn't possibly suggest trusting your animal with these people.

I brought my 10-month-old kitten here for her spay. When I picked her up, I was told that for any future visits I would need to give her medication 24 hours in advance because she was "aggressive." This caught me off guard because she has been seen multiple times at another veterinary clinic and has never been described as aggressive. I asked if they thought her behavior could have been due to the stress of surgery or being in an unfamiliar environment, but I was told it was because of her breed. Since I wasn't present before or after the surgery, I accepted what they told me and left. A few days later, I had to bring her back because she developed a golf ball-sized lump near her incision, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't infected. I was greeted by the same technician who had previously told me my cat would need to be medicated for every visit. From the start, she seemed visibly annoyed that my cat had not been medicated before the appointment. She asked me to place my cat on the scale and then attempted to take her temperature while I held my cat's front legs and butt to keep her still. My cat let out a deep, unhappy meow, but she did not scratch, bite, or lunge. The technician immediately slammed the thermometer onto the counter, said, "Alright, I'll bring the doctor in so he can look at her," and stopped trying to examine her. If she had simply said she wasn't comfortable handling my cat or preferred the veterinarian take over, I would have completely understood. Instead, her body language and attitude made me feel like both my cat and I were an inconvenience from the moment we walked in and throwing the thermometer on the counter was highly unprofessional. I do want to point out that the veterinarian who performed my cat's surgery was kind, professional, and had no apparent issues examining her. I continued holding my cat while he checked her incision, and he was able to examine the area without any problems. My cat did sound mad while he was doing so, but she didn't swipe, bite, or hiss. Unfortunately, because of my experience with the vet tech, I won't be returning with my cat or dog for future visits. Compassionate animal handling and respectful communication are just as important as medical care, and I did not feel either was demonstrated during this visit. I also experienced repeated issues with paperwork. Before the surgery, I was asked at least five separate times to resend documents that had already been submitted weeks earlier. That gave me the impression that the office is disorganized and does not keep records as efficiently as it should. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic.

Everyone was very friendly and made me and my dog very comfortable. The vet seemed to really care about my dog and didn't seem to rush through the visit. The price was also reasonable. Will definitely be back

Great caring staff and the doctor was very thoughtful about our boxer. Moving all our 4legged children there because of the ability to be seen in an emergency situation. Thank you everyone job well done!
