How to Save Money at Atlantic Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Highly recommend this vet! We are new to the area and brought in our two dogs for their vaccinations. One of our dogs is extremely fearful of strangers and they were amazing with him! They were so patient and kind and everyone there was very friendly. My husband and I were very pleased with our visit and we are happy to claim this as our new veterinarian.

Thank you so much to my new vet!!! I'm so impressed. These people actually care about animals. And they are so good at their jobs!! They are so warm and thoughtful! My cat Binx is a senior cat with a large water cyst on his head that had gotten so bad. I recently moved and needed a new vet. I rolled the dice with this place and they are going to be my vet for life. I thought their pricing was EXTREMELY reasonable. Medical care for anyone is expensive, but I did NOT feel like I was being sold on anything unnecessary. Nothing against my old vet, but I paid HALF of what they had wanted for Binx's surgery. You can absolutely trust these people. Gorgeous facility, amazing staff, reasonable pricing. Thank you Dr. Parker and Dr. Phil!!!

I called this clinic the day before my appointment to ask about euthanasia for my 13-year-old dog, who is blind and deaf. This was an incredibly difficult decision for me. When I spoke with Claire, she explained the process and led me to believe that euthanasia would likely be the best option given my dog’s condition. She did mention that, as a new patient, an evaluation would be required first, and she also explained how the “sleep process” works. Based on that conversation, I prepared myself emotionally for what I thought would happen at the appointment. However, when we arrived, the experience was completely different. After examining my dog, the veterinarian only wanted to run additional tests and prescribe medication to “make her feel better.” This was confusing and frustrating, especially after being told previously that euthanasia was likely the appropriate path. This is not about refusing other options—it’s about being given misleading information and not being heard. I made it very clear that my dog’s quality of life is very poor. Instead of compassion and understanding, we were made to feel judged, as if we didn’t care about our dog. This was one of the hardest decisions of my life, and the lack of clear communication and empathy made the experience even more painful. Very disappointing experience. And they charged $75 for nothing

As a pet owner for many years, I cannot rate this clinic, Dr. Nancy and the staff high enough. My senior dog had a seizure when I pulled in the parking lot to get him groomed next door. I was absolutely distraught and the groomer picked him out of my hands and physically ran him over to the vet (shout out to Alex pet grooming who are also INCREDIBLE people). Dr Nancy sat down next to me, hugged me for like 5 minutes straight as I was crying and told me that she was going to do everything she could do for him. Mind you, I had never met these people or been to this clinic before. Kody stabilized and I brought him home but he took a turn for the worse within a few hours and I made the difficult decision to put him to rest. I called this clinic and explained that I felt his time was at the end and asked if I could come back in. This was about 4:40 pm (they close at 5pm) and she said absolutely no worries. I came to put him to sleep, by myself because I don’t have any family support in this state, and let me tell you… the day I had been dreading for years, wasn’t NEARLY as difficult as I was thinking it would be - solely because of these people. Dr Nancy did not rush me at all even though the clinic was closed and they didn’t know me or my dog. She was so kind, warm and her presence truly felt like it was sent from God. It was so, so, so appreciated and needed. A week later, I got a letter in the mail with handwritten notes from the entire staff. I feel like these people are angels on earth and I owe everything to them, especially Dr. Nancy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We had to recently put our beloved Bruiser down as he got to the age where there was nothing left for us to do to keep him with us. Atlantic Veterinary and their staff were amazing. Kim and Claire at the front counter were very warm and compassionate. Dr Nancy and her assistant Lizette were both so compassionate and kind with the way they helped us get through this trying time. Their kind words and the way they handled this was very comforting and made it easier for my wife and I to get through it. Thank you again for everything!!!
