How to Save Money at Sheridan Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely phenomenal staff, so kind and caring, cannot thank them enough!! We had to rush my dog who was suddenly having breathing trouble here and they took him in right away and got to work saving him. My dog is also terrified of the vet but they were so incredible to him he was the calmest I’ve ever seen, even given how stressed he was due to the situation. Amy was at the reception desk and took such wonderful care of us. The doctor and all other staff are so gentle and attentive, words cannot describe how much they mean to our family now. Endlessly grateful and 10000000/10 recommend.

I have used this facility before. The staff and Dr.Santiago are very helpful. Just recently I had fears and questions after my cat fell and suffered a mild injury. They took my call, and after a short time, reached back out to me and helped set my mind at ease. I have interacted with MANY vets in my lifetime, and it is not often to find those who go the extra mile. Often we hear "I'm sorry, the Dr. is very busy, please come in or make an appointment." While this is often true, it does little to help the frightened caller or set a reassuring tone. This establishment CARES about their clients, and I highly recommend them to any cat owners who may need help in the future. Thank you Dr. SANTIAGO ❤️

Been coming to this vet for a few years now, and love the entire staff. Today, I called with concern about my cat. Amy was very comforting on the phone. Thank you for your kind and calming words!

I have four cats and have been going to doctor Bob for almost twenty years. He and the staff have always treated me fairly and kindly, but he doesn't run the office any more.. They have new ownership m management who are the worst.. I brought my cat in to have a urinealysis, and be tested for possible. Kidney issues or infection.. I spent $500.. I did it receive reports. So I kept calling.. Finally, I got the result of the cultures. What was told no uranalysis was done.. I called to speak with the office manager Farron who told me some story that the second part of the testing wasn't back yet?And they were misinformed.. After I hung up with her, something didn't feel right. So I called back and I asked for an email of the results when they came in.. Of course I never heard back.. When I called again, I once again was confirmed that no uranalysis was even taken. So basically I was ripped off and lied to.. I am so sad I can't go to doctor bob anymore or work with the staff but they are under new management and they will steal your money and lie about it.. I have recommended so many people here.I cannot do so anymore.. Incredibly disappointed

My cat has an infection on his cheek and I walked in randomly without an appointment. Apparently I was super lucky because dr bob was present and the 9:30am appointment didn’t show. For reference you should make an appointment, but for me luckily they serviced me and my cat . They cleaned his wound, checked him, and gave us meds, all for a total of only $106! They gave me a small discount, but even without it I bet it would still be VERY cheap. Very glad I listened to my gut and went here. Felt comfortable with the vet and my wallet is very happy. Will return definitely!
