How to Save Money at Old Cutler Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t say enough great things about Old Cutler Animal Hospital! I want to thank the entire team—especially Dr. Torres and all the doctors—for the incredible care they gave my dog, Simba. He had an eye ulcer that we weren’t able to operate on, but thanks to their expertise and dedication, they were able to heal it naturally. It truly felt like a miracle, and Simba is doing so much better now! From the receptionists to the doctors, every single person is kind, attentive, and genuinely cares about the animals they treat. You can feel the compassion the moment you walk in. I am beyond grateful and highly recommend them 100%!

I just want to say that I have been coming here for years to get my dog taken care of and we have always been treated with care and respect. Always leaving satisfied and wanting to return for any of our pets. You would think that having to take your pets here can turn into a sensitive topic for all involved especially if your fur baby has complications. Today at 2:40PM 3/6/26 the girl at the front counter LIZ was very rude. I can understand financial situations are involved but there is a way to speak to a customer involving a sensitive situation about their pet. No matter the situation if you are working in an animal clinic, you would think that a front desk worker will have the kindness in her heart to explain financial options and medication with respect and compassion. The girl in the front desk gave us none of that. It is not what you say, it is how you say it, no matter anyone’s financial situation especially involving a very sensitive topic. She took back the medication, told us we won’t be getting any lab results and didn’t offer any other resolution or concern and now my 13 year old dog is in tremendous pain as he is bleeding from his mouth and still has an horrible skin and mouth infection. Didn't offer anything, didn't speak to her manager to see what they would have said..just left us with no real options, and kept saying she cannot let us leave without a payment. She kept insisting she can’t let us leave…What do you mean you can’t let us leave? I was trying to understand what she meant by that as she took back the medication as if we were planning on running away with it like thugs. I would have felt better about the situation as a whole if she had compassion and better wording. “You don’t have $50 or $60 to pay!?” She rudely said. I had explained that to her 3 times prior to her comment. To also mention that my mother should apply to see if “she has better credit than you” is sooo demeaning. The reason why I applied for cherry was because I did not have the funds to begin with as I thought my credit card was okay to use. She never explained that there would be a first monthly payment today.. that is why I applied for cherry to begin with because I didn’t have any funds. I truly do not wish unwell or anything. I only wish for the manager/owner to have a conversation with the front desk employee about learning how to speak to clients without an attitude and respect. I wasn’t rude, I was calm the entire time. I am distraught and heartbroken. Sometimes when a client is going through a terrible situation involving their pets, their headspace is foggy. No need to be nasty about it. I am never coming back here again due to the disrespect and embarrassment that I have experienced! I understand you cannot go to a vet without paying anything, but due to circumstances I was unaware of my credit card situation until I got there. Please do better for anyone else going to this clinic and might experience the same issue with her nasty attitude. Everyone else spoke to us with compassion and understanding except for the young lady at the counter LIZ. On 3/6/26. Hopefully there can be a resolution or even a conversation with someone that can help me understand what went wrong. My sister, brother and mother all come to this place.. My sister recently went to check her dog’s paw after the situation and was concerned for what had happened. LIZ lied to my sister and told her I was being rude and was agitated towards my own mother… why would she tell my sister that? My mother also left a review based on her performance. Extremely unprofessional on her part to gossip and mention that to my sister…Never again. Terrible

Young lady at the front counter today at 3/6/26 has treated us with disrespect and very unfair. She told my son “well do you want to see if your mom has better credit than you do to see if she gets approved?” Instead of saying something like “I understand your financial situation, please come back when you have funds available” she said “well we have to take back the medication and bill you there’s nothing we can do” her attitude felt like it was her saying “forget you and your dog not my problem” disgusting behavior that my son and I had to experience. We tried to speak to the manager and she didn’t want to connect to us with the manager after just telling us she’s going to speak to her manager. Young girl in the front counter is a nasty worker and if you are miserable in your life, it shows. Such a very important sensitive situation and she made this so much worse for us.

We have been customers of this animal clinic for over 50 years. A recent change in ownership has not affected the wonderful care all our pets have received over the years. I highly recommend this business for your pet care needs.
