How to Save Money at Parkway Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love Dr. Riley! My dog was neutered a few weeks ago and had some bad swelling from the procedure after removing a mass. They went above and beyond to take good care of my guy! He’s all healed and doing great. All of the staff is great and make you feel so comfortable!

My dog Charlie is 14 years old and had diarrhea for a couple of days with blood in stool. My regular vet was not there that day but I got him in with a different vet. We waited past appointment time. They told me there was an emergency that took longer than they thought. This visit went smoothly they gave me meds for Charlie and he is healing. Most of my visits before finding Dr. Gordon have not been the best. This time was okay.

I brought my elderly dog in hoping for guidance, patience, and professional care, but unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. During the appointment, I felt judged and criticized for the food I’ve been feeding my dog, rather than supported or educated. I was genuinely trying to ask questions and better understand the recommendations being given, but when I politely questioned one of them, the vet tech responded by laughing at me, which felt incredibly unprofessional, dismissive, and flat out rude. When I tried to clarify that I wasn’t arguing but simply looking to have a discussion and learn, the veterinarian responded with, “I’m not arguing with you,” instead of taking the opportunity to explain or guide. The interaction quickly became uncomfortable and unproductive. To make matters worse, the appointment was abruptly cut short with the explanation that they had an emergency. While I completely understand that emergencies happen in veterinary medicine, the way it was handled felt dismissive. There was no attempt to reschedule, no reassurance, and no effort to respect the time I had set aside for this visit! I remained calm and respectful throughout the entire experience, but I left feeling unheard, disrespected, and without the support my elderly dog deserves. I voiced to the receptionist at the front desk why i was walking out and leaving the appointment, and definitely told her to let the vet tech know that she put her tampon in the wrong hole this morning. Compassion and communication are so important in these situations, and sadly, both were lacking here. Plus to mention, they helped me put my other dog down. Several years ago so Im beyond disappointed with this office and will NOT be coming back. You just dont treat clients/customers/patients like that.

My boyfriend and I went there unfortunately to put down our baby girl Bailey of12 loving years, and from beginning to finish and beyond, I felt the sincerity and compassion they had for our dilemma. When I called to get estimates for the service, they apologized, took their time to explain the numbers, and when it was scheduled, apologized again and wished me to have a better day until the appointment. When we got there, they were fast to accommodate, with privacy as one of their number one priorities. The Dr and tech then explained thoroughly the procedure, didnt make us feel pressured or rushed, and was very friendly, almost as a close friend or family. Less then a week, we got our girl back in a beautiful urn, with a certificate and her fur. The next day as well, we got a card with all the members of the wonderful establishment with Bailey's paw print and nose print. We both felt at that point to write a review to express our feelings about PAH, and so with that being said, I hope you guys do read these and I also hope you know you made the grief process easier and very special. THANK YOU SO MUCH 💝

My dog had bladder stones removed and the process went smoothly! Their sutures were well done and healed quickly, my dog had little to no discomfort afterwards. Highly recommend.
