How to Save Money at Fetch Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Centers - Clearwater, FL

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our sweet 5 year old girl Myka was disgnosed with cancer, and for the next year we had nearly weekly visits with Dr. Sixta, Taylor, Miguel, Dylan and the whole Fetch team as we went through with chemotherapy. In one of the hardest times of our life, Dr. Sixta and her team provided the most caring, kind, and honest care for Myka, helping guide us through one difficult decision after another. We had to change the type of care and medicine Myka was receiving on several occasions, and through each of those changes, Dr. Sixta was educating us and giving us her most honest opinion to help us decide the next steps. We can’t speak enough about what an amazing doctor she is and the care she provides. The oncology team, especially Taylor, Miguel and Dylan were Myka’s favorite people and they were so sweet to our girl. She was always skeptical of people, especially at the vet, but each time they would walk in our room, she would brighten up and she’d be excited to give them some love. And because of that, we know they provided Myka the best care. Everyone at the front desk were very kind and professional, always checking on us throughout our appointments and seeing if we needed anything. While it’s a place no pet owner wants to end up, knowing your babies are in the best and most advance care, and with doctors and nurses who truly care at Fetch makes a very difficult time that much easier. Thank you to the whole Fetch team. Myka loved you all. We miss her every day 🧡

Dr. Sixta, Taylor, and the entire oncology team are amazing! I have been bringing my cat Olive here for a year for chemo and they took such amazing care of her. I cant recommend them enough, they really care about their patients! They answered all my questions and were so kind! The entire staff at Fetch is so kind, from the front desk to everyone in clinical. Definitely bring your pets here if they ever need emergency or speciality treatment! Thank you Fetch for taking such amazing care of Olive!

Had to find a specialist for my 9 yr old doberman Jaeger. Our regular vet said he needed an ultrasound. I called Fetch for an emergency appointment, but after discussing with the staff, we ended up waiting for a few days for specialist to be there saving me time and money. Dr Hogan couldn't have been nicer and clearly explain the options. She preformed the ultrasound and then an aspirate procedure. She never rushed me and gave me time to ask questions. She diagnosed it as Doberman Hepatitis which is incurable, but might be able to be managed for a while. She made a plan and then called me a few days later when the test came back to discuss finding which still pointed to hepatitis. They also emailed me and my regular vet the results. Again, never rushed thru the explanation. Also, one of the medication is made to order and the pharmacy said it would take over a week to get. One of the vet techs called the pharmacy and got the order pushed up. I'm very happy with the care my dog received there. We are going back in a week to see if the meds have slowed the progression of the disease. Loretta

We are spending the winter months in Sarasota and on Day 3 our dog started to vomit. We’ve been to 2 vets and then a specialist for an ultrasound which showed a mass. Our vet in Toronto wanted a CT scan so we were sent to Fetch. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Google reviews but I’ll make it easy, Fetch Clearwater is fantastic. From the first call when the receptionist was so sympathetic that the Fetch in Brandon booked us with the wrong department and cancelled our appointment the day before so she was able to fit us in at Clearwater the same time we were supposed to be in Brandon. Miguel our tech who did all the info intake and was very gentle with Rocklyn when he took her to the back and finally Dr Sixta was so great in so many ways. Dr Sixta has great bedside manner with both the animals and their owners. She knew she was giving us a second opinion and the first thing she talked about was why she didn’t want to do the very expensive test we came specifically to do. She then went on to explain in a very easy to understand way why she didn’t want to do the surgery we had hoped would be done. It’s a full service hospital practice so she took the time to do a different test and consulted with the surgeon right then and there so we wouldn’t have to make additional trips to the hospital. Finally she came up with a treatment plan that hadn’t been previously suggested to us that might be helpful enough that it would get me to go over the Sunshine Parkway a few times which is the highest form of praise I could ever imagine I can only speak of my own experience but if you have had a vet who has left you dazed and confused about a stomach mass in your constant companion with little hope I would go to Fetch Clearwater immediately and see what they can do for you. Thanks Dr Sixta, Miguel and everyone at Fetch Clearwater, I look forward to your help in getting Rocklyn more comfortable PS: Sadly Rocklyn developed an ulcer which led to internal bleeding and we had to say goodbye to her but many thanks to all the staff at Fetch who helped Rocklyn through her her treatment and we really appreciate the time everyone took to express their condolences on her sympathy card. I hope I won’t need to be back for many years but I wouldn’t hesitate the next time I have a sick companion. Thanks again

Fetch vets is hands down the best emergency and critical care vet office in Florida. They saved our baby after we were turned down by other locations that couldn’t quite figure out what was going on(and truthfully we didn’t have the time to spare). The level of compassion and care they provided our big boy was beyond exceptional. He ended up needing emergency surgery for something extremely rare and they did it without hesitation and saved our baby boy. He is only 4 years old and we were told by other locations it’s cancer/double heart failure/any other life ending illness but Fetch found out the actual issue and handled it immediately. Words don’t even begin to describe how grateful our family is for them. Everyone we go in everyone loves on our boy and just makes him feel so calm. Thank you fetch for saving our boy and being so exceptional on every level. You all are truly angels and cannot express how much you saved not only Nico but our family.,
