How to Save Money at Chuluota Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough good things about this veterinarian. After seeing six different vets and feeling overwhelmed, scared, and desperate for real answers to get my cat back to health, I found a doctor who genuinely cares. From the moment we walked in, it was clear this is not just a job for him. He is compassionate, thoughtful, and attentive, taking the time to listen, ask the right questions, and carefully consider what my cat was going through. For the first time in days to weeks, I felt like someone truly understood both the medical side and the emotional toll this takes on a pet owner. What also stood out was how exceptional his entire team is. Every staff member was kind, patient, and genuinely invested in my cat’s well-being. You can tell they share the same values and compassion as the doctor himself, which creates an environment of trust and calm during an otherwise incredibly stressful time. That level of teamwork and care makes a real difference. Every recommendation felt purposeful and centered on my cat’s best interest. While cost always creeps up in the back of your mind, it is worth noting that he was one of the most reasonable of all the veterinarians we saw, which further reinforced that his decisions were driven by care and integrity, not profit. I wish I had found him on day one. It would have saved an incredible amount of stress, confusion, and heartache. After so much uncertainty, he brought clarity and compassion when we needed it most. If you are looking for a veterinarian who puts animals first and is supported by an equally caring and highly capable team, I cannot recommend this practice highly enough. T & L

Dr. Zern is the best, he saves countless animals. He rescued my Charlie and took out a massive tumor that prevented him from walking, he saved my Gus from certain death due to undiagnosed stomach issues. He diagnosed Maggie my Chi with urinary stones that gave her a chance. These were all abandoned and forgotten dogs certain to die due to untreated issues. You can tell he truly cares. Trust me rescuing and saving animals from the streets for over 30 years. I've seen some compassionless vets. He's not it. He cares. His staff is wonderful too! ❤️ Here are Gus just turned 15, Maggie the brindle colored dog and Charlie the tan pup. Charlie and Maggie crossed over the rainbow bridge a few years ago but they had many wonderful years spreading joy and living their best lives!

I brought my two pups in to Chuluota VH for a yearly wellness and itchy ears. Dr. Zern and his staff were very attentive and sweet to my dogs. My dog Oreo (pictured) has anxiety. The doctor and staff here were able to do her exam and vaccines without causing her stress! We will definitely be coming back.

Very caring vet and staff. Highly recommend. I can't comment on the price because I don't know what others vet offices charge.

Just moved to Chuluota and wanted to get setup with a vet before I actually need one. My sister uses this clinic and highly recommended them. I am so glad she did. The visit went very well, had a very thorough exam by Dr. Zern. I was impressed by how gentle and kind he was to my dog. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you Dr. Zern and staff.
