How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Treated my old dog with kindness and sent us home with treatment and follow up. The price wasn’t outrageous and I feel they did the best they could with the situation presented. I really appreciate them being open later and so close to home. The wait was longer than I liked but that is to be expected on a Friday night. Thank you for treating Wilbur and calming his mama’s nerves.

5 month old puppy ate my beauty blender (makeup sponge) & something told me maybe this isn’t one of those things where we moniter for a few days to see how she goes becuase I know since she swallowed it whole it wouldn’t be any good in her system especially that it was a sponge and very absorbing. I rushed over to induce throwing up since it had just been about an hour or so and right away they attended us, and got it OUT! Price was cheaper than the other places for amazing service so I would definitely be recommending this place. Lastly, they even called me day after to check on her health to see see how she was doing after the visit. I loved that 🩵 very friendly staff super cool & easy going people

The staff was very helpful carrying our dog into the facility. I recommend they get a wagon for emergency situations. Our family dog got into some contaminants at home and the vet was able to quickly assess the situation. Although they were closing I found the vet to be very sensitive to our situation. Because of her recommendations we were able to get overnight care, and she is doing great now! I highly recommend this place.

I don’t write reviews often, and I especially don’t like writing negative ones. But even after two months, I still feel strongly about our experience. I chose UrgentVet based on its great reviews. Our 14-year-old Pomeranian, Jack, suddenly collapsed at home, and it was obvious he is not well. At the time, I had no idea what had happened—I only knew he had collapsed and needed medical attention. He had severe anxiety when it came to vet visits. We had to wait quite a while in exam room before being seen, which made his anxiety even worse. The veterinarian told us he needed oxygen and chest X-rays, but because they were unable to handle him due to his anxiety, neither was done. The vet mentioned that it might have been a syncopal episode but couldn’t be certain without being able to perform the necessary diagnostics. We left without any treatment or answers. The next morning, I found another veterinary clinic that agreed to see him the same day. They were incredibly patient and compassionate. They successfully gave him oxygen, took chest X-rays without any problems, diagnosed him with an enlarged heart and early heart failure, and confirmed that he had most likely experienced a syncopal episode. He was started on the medications he needed immediately. I understand that anxious dogs can be challenging, but I was disappointed that there didn’t seem to be another approach or any attempt to help him when he was clearly in distress. Sadly, Jack passed away a few weeks later due to his heart disease. I hope this feedback encourages the clinic to consider different ways of helping very anxious dogs, especially when they are experiencing a medical emergency. No pet should leave an urgent care clinic without receiving the treatment they need simply because they are frightened.

We found a nasty hot spot on my dog on a Sunday afternoon. We had a busy week ahead and weren’t sure when we’d be able to get in with our vet to have her seen. Someone mentioned Urgent Vet was open on Sundays. We went to their website and scheduled our arrival. We walked in, sat down and were called in to a room within 5 mins. We waited about 20 mins to see the vet tech. He took our pups vitals a detailed the issue. The doc was in about 10 mins later and check the hot spot. She talked us through a treatment plan and answered all of our questions. They brought our dog out back and cleaned and shaved the area. They gave us all the meds and explained the dosage and schedule. We were in and out in under 90 mins. It was more affordable than I anticipated. Someone even called the next day to check on her.
