How to Save Money at Levine Veterinary Neurology

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thank you to Dr. Levine and his loving team for taking care of Oliver, our 2 1/2 year old terrier mix, when he injured his back (herniated disc) and required emergency surgery (back legs were paralyzed). Dr. Levine was very caring and explained the surgery details and expected recovery. We are now 12 weeks post-op and Oliver is a happy boy and about 80% better! He is young so hoping for a great outcome! Alexis and Mykaya were very helpful w/ my many post-op questions and videos - thank you so much!

Hoosier suddenly lost movement in his rear legs in late January of this year. I immediately took him to the vet where they diagnosed him with IVDD And the best option seemed to be putting him down. Hoosier is only 5 years old and is loved very much so I searched and searched for a place that could preform surgery on him until we found Levine. Dr. Levine and his staff were very kind and honest about the surgery for Hoosier. When his MRI was done, Dr. Levine reached out to us and let us know the severity of Hoosier’s case and the chances of it working and him being able to walk again. While the chances were low I decided Hoosier should have the chance to live and went through with it. The staff was there to help with all needs and concerns after the surgery and even called to check up on Hoosier’s progress. A few days later he began to wag his tail but It is now June and Hoosier is fully walking, running, playing, and overall happy and pain-free. If it wasn’t for Dr. Levine and his staff my Hoosier wouldn’t be here today.

The staff was amazing. Dr. Levine spent an extended amount of time examining my baby and explaining to me the possible diagnosis and options for evaluation and treatment. I felt like he truly cared and treated Archie as if he was his own. In the end, I opted for the MRI and the pricing was a lot less than I expected. I was extremely impressed with the entire staff and process and highly recommend this practice.

They truly saved my dog’s life. After three misdiagnoses and thousands of dollars spent, I finally found Levine Neurology. I only wish I had recognized sooner that this was a neurological issue and gone there from the start. Dr. Levine quickly identified the condition as MUO and began treatment right away. The early days were heartbreaking and the recovery was just as hard on us as it was on Pappy, but now, three years later, he is doing incredibly well. If you are searching for a veterinary neurologist, this is the place to go. Dr. Levine and his team gave me more time with my best friend. He is compassionate, patient, and takes the time to answer every question while clearly explaining what is happening. He even gets down on the floor to connect with your pet and truly understand them. The office is also clean, calm, and highly professional.

Dr Levine & staff were so kind. He sat on the floor with my pet, spent an hour checking her neuro responses while asking about her history, answered all of my questions, did not rush and is such a down to earth, kind Dr! Totally worth driving from Tampa, as he lived up to his reviews & recommendations. .I now understand much more clearly the issues my pet has and various treatment options. Thank you so much Dr Levine! If you need a Neurologist for your pet, look no further! Her vet agreed with your suggestion of cold laser therapy to see if it helps her chronic pain and she will have Ortho consult after the treatments. She definitely was rocking the goggles!
