How to Save Money at Sunny Brae Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Samantha Burk is awesome! After 2 visits she got my pawpaw back to his happy puppy self. Honestly everyone I had interactions with with was super kind. I would 100% recommend to a friend.

Very compassionate and try their best to lower pricing for low income families (take Care Credit as well). No judgements and dont talk down to you. I trust them with all my pets. We just had to send one of our senior dogs over the rainbow bridge and they offer a very quiet gazebo outside with privacy and comfortable sitting to spend as much time as you wish with your passed on pet. They also will do paw prints and nose prints on request which was very nice the other day when it was our Hunter's time. They tried everything they could to save him but it was his time. Again, very compassionate staff

Had been my vet for almost 10 years but at this point I’m feeling very defeated after being brushed aside for weeks. My sweet Daisy (Noodle) has seizures and we need to get her help. A med change, a work up. Real help. With the prescribed meds she is still having breakthrough seizures every 4-6 weeks and we have been given no emergency meds. She developed pica and we were told to go down on her meds. The night we lowered her dosage she had 4 seizures. I am so scared. We just waited for an hour to be seen and put her through a lot of stress for nothing because we ended up needing to leave. She is anxious and pacing and I really hope she doesn’t have any more seizures tonight. I wish this was being taken more seriously and we were offered a video appointment as she’s seen regularly.

I would just like to say that although the death of a dog is like the death of a human family member I was treated very well and kind by the people at Sunny Brae I had to have my beautiful dog of 21 years put to sleep and they were very compassionate and very sweet with me

I brought my dog here on Friday because he was doing extremely poorly and had been struggling for several years. He was almost 9 years old, and I I knew it was time for him to cross the rainbow bridge But I have been terrified that he wouldn’t be sedated enough and would jolt or something after giving the second injection because that happened with another one of my dogs that was euthanized at a different clinic, and I let them both know this fear of mine, so the man who came after the vet assessed my dog who was also amazing, she came in the little gazebo, which I thought was such a nice touch to be able to say goodbye to our loved one in the privacy of that comfortable space. The vet was amazing, she got down on her knees to get down to the level of my small Chihuahua/wiener dog, And she introduced herself to all of us and gave my dog, some loving pets and kind words and then she gave him a physical and she noticed his lymph nodes were swollen, and there was growths around it as well, and she said that he more than likely had cancer. She said she could clearly tell he was not a happy little guy and that it was his time to go. I was so upset I did not catch what their names were and I looked on their website to see if I can find the names of the employees there, but I did not see it but the man who came out and did the injections was so kind, caring, sweet and also gave my dog, some loving strokes and kind words. He gave him his first injection in the muscle for the sedation and he said that when he came back if need be, he would give him extra sedation, just in case to make sure he is sedated properly fully. After they left and gave us some time for the sedative to kick in, my dog was the most calm comfortable, and his muscles were also relaxed for the first time in years. I looked up all the ways to test reflexes myself and did so after about 10 minutes, and he had shown no signs of reflexes, except for when I would gently touch the inner corner of his eye and eyeball he would blink, but that was it. When the man came back, I told him I had checked all of his reflexes, but he had once given the IV catheter given more sedative I believe before doing the final injection. I have been witness to all of my family’s dogs Being euthanized over the last six years and I’m not joking when I say this was the most peaceful one I’ve ever been a part of, My dog literally was just breathing nice and slow and softly and he did the injection slowly and finally he just took one more normal breath and that was it. This was the first and only euthanasia I swear that my dog literally went to sleep and didn’t know they were passing away. He and everyone of our other dogs, except for one all did some weird reaction when they were being given the last injection, whether it was a deep breathing or one even shot up its head and looked back at me and not really haunted me. I want to give my biggest appreciation for this establishment because it truly was the biggest comfort to see them my boy Jaxx went as peacefully as possible. In the little gazebo, they also have it set up with some really nice little sayings on the table and they have a sign up, saying that they will upon request due paw prints and snout prints for you if you would like. They also had blankets folded up in case you needed one, And they had puppy pads that we were able to wrap around my dogs behind like a diaper, the man who helped My dog pass also opened the car door for me and I could just feel like they truly care and love animals. Once again, thank you so much for everything. Your staff is amazing. In the future I will continuing to get veterinary care through them. I also thought the pricing was amazing and that they were able to get me in that same day I called in the morning and they scheduled me for 3 PM. Pricing was not bad at all $160 for euthanasia and if I wanted to do cremation $380 total. I originally when I called in the morning was gonna do cremation but then a few hours later my pet rat passed away, so I decided I wanted to bury them together.
