always a reason not to cover
I discovered that Trupanion doesn't cover a vet visit unless the vet DOES something like take blood or give medicine. So, when my dog started yelping and was unable to walk in the park, the visit to the vet was not paid because the vet found nothing wrong and the dog was no longer yelping. They ignored that the vet spent a good deal of time checking my dog over from head to foot to be sure. Then they refused to pay for allergies even though no allergies have been found. The records indicated that an ear infection COULD BE a seasonal allergy so now they wont pay for any allergic conditions. In fact, they've only paid for a crisis situation when the dog suddenly started vomiting and became dehydrated and we didn't know why. This seems to be emergency only insurance although it's not supposed to be.

ehhhhhh....It's OK, but not great.
I have had this insurance for several years and used it recently for the 1st time for one of my cats. I will say that you really need to understand all of the fine print. I was reimbursed a portion but not all minus the $100 deductible. It was decided that my vet charged more than what they thought was a reasonable amount and just did not pay some of the costs. I must admit that I thought my policy paid 100% after the deductible, but when I went back and read it, it is an 80/20 split. However, I think it is wrong to not reimburse the full 80% the vet charged. I have no control over how much the hospital charges. Basically, if you add up what you pay in premiums over time, you are simply putting your pet's health expenses on a monthly payment plan and paying in advance. And more than likely you will end up paying more out of pocket all together. There are way too many limits and exclusions.

So Far So Good
My dog just got his teeth cleaned and some small warts removed and ASPCA paid 80% as advertised. Although certain charges are paid only to the maximum allowance, I am not sure if any one ever knows what the allowance is. Yet the process took about 2 weeks from the date I faxed in my claim to the time I received my reimbursement. One thing I like about them is that they will email you once the claim is processed; communication is a key.

Yes, on Pet Insurance
I was happy that I had bitten the bullet a few years back, and bought pet insurance for my Australian Shepherd, Nellie. I didn't have it when I had to come up with $4,000 for her ACL surgery. 80% of that would have been helpful. Nor did I have it on Bravo when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. I never added up the costs of 15 months of chemo. Nellie required surgery recently, which came to $1,400. The reimbursement of 80% of the cost came very quickly and without question. I'm sold on pet insurance.

Pleasantly surprised
I was very hesitant to get pet insurance, but after having a poodle that lived to be 18, I decided it would be the best idea with our new Chihuahua. After reviewing the other insurances out there, I did the math and Embrace with 10% co-pay and a $200 deductible seemed to pay for itself with only 3-4 vet visits per year. I also added the Wellness plan, it's like getting $50 back free. Plus they have a lot of nice reviews and only one bad one that I could find. I received an email telling me that I needed a vet's exam to start the insurance coverage, so I thought "Oh boy, here goes! This is the FINE PRINT!" So I took Nutmeg in, and had the vet fill out the forms, as well as give her 2nd puppy shots. I submitted it, thinking that they would kick it back, because it was the initial exam. But to my surprise, they paid the entire thing! Quickly and with nice sincere emails that did not seem to be forms, but really written by a human. We'll see how it goes in the future, but they are starting out great.

Best investment I ever made!
Both my pets have had unforseen health issues and if it wasn't for Pets Best I'm not sure what I would have done! My dog had a ruptured cruciate ligament (blew her knee out) about two years ago and needed surgery which wound up costing nearly $4,000. After paying my $75 deductible, they covered 80% of the bill! Not 80% of their "approved" charges, but 80% entirely! Then, if you can believe this, just last fall she ruptured her other knee, same exact surgery required, same results from Pets Best...awesome! Now about my cat. She has had three different occasions of requiring dental surgery for painful lesions and she's almost without any teeth now, but at least she's not in pain and neither is my wallet. Each extraction was costly and Pets Best delivered on their promise to pay 80% of the full charges, minus my deductible. I call my guys my million dollar babies, little lemons, ha-ha! But they are my most precious companions and I am so happy to know they have insurance to care for their medical emergencies...best investment I ever made!

True (and efficient) customer service.
We just had our female bulldog puppy spayed. Our policy with Embrace includes 'wellness' coverage, which provides $200 annual benefits for $180 in premiums. This was our first claim experience with Embrace, and included a policy adjustment (health insurance discount after spay or neuter). Both the claim reimbursement and the policy/premium adjustment were handled with perfect efficiency, including correspondence to ensure satisfactory handling before, during, and after processing. That sort of customer service is rare in my experience lately. Good work Embrace!

Stayed In Touch
Embrace stayed in touch about my claims and records review. They answered my emails within 24 hours and provided very helpful information. Coverage for the claim was as stated in their policy and all was processed in a very timely way and professional manner. I recommend Embrace to anyone who asks me.
