I used VPI for three years until now, when I cancelled my policy. Tiger, my cat, died last week. He was 14 years old, very strong, however I understand he got old… I used VPI six times since 2009, and I can tell you that I had more expenses denied than paid, and when I received some reimbursement it was insignificant. As an example, in 2009, for an otitis problem I paid to the vet $ 87.00 and received back $ 5.40. They always had an excuse to deny the reimbursement, or because the treatment is excluded by the policy or the service is not listed as a covered condition… Finally, this September 2012, he got really sick. We took Tiger to two different vets that had a cost of $ 250.00 and 495.00, my reimbursement $ 0.00. Not even the blood test and general exams that discovered that he had a pulmonary infection that resulted in a heart condition. The claim forms were always completed by the vet, but VPI asked for more clarification and claimed that the vet did not give a diagnosis. We opted to give the treatment to Tiger at home, medications, pills. I can imagine the cost if he had to be in a hospital. We paid for the cremation, and I did not ask for a reimbursement - I did not want them to ask me to see my cat’s body as a proof of its death.
