I started with VPI approximately June 2007. I have had absolutely zero problems with the insurance on my cat. VPI has lived up to exactly their end of the bargain. After once losing my cat to a serious illness and having to choose between treatment and cost, I swore I would never, EVER be put in that position again. I adopted a new cat (she was about 3 at the time). I immediately shopped for insurance. I picked VPI. After adopting her, she was diagnosed with recurring secondary glaucoma. The diagnosis didn't sound hopeful and the worst case was loss of the eye. The first round of treatment had very high cost due to the need to involve an animal ophthalmology specialist.
