Run...Don't Walk from Banfield Plan

I took my rescue cat to Banfield over a year ago. The cat was basically healthy with a bad case of fleas. After Banfield poked and prodded the poor little cat, it developed a urinary blockage. Unfortunately, I had already signed up for the plan. After the cat was unable to urinate, and appeared to be near death, I took him to a "real vet." The vet told me that he is always furious when he gets animals after they have gone to Banfield and other franchises like them. He said they over charge and often prescribe medications that the animals don't need, and they do more harm than good. I showed him the medicines they prescribed and he advised me to throw all of them away except the one for fleas. It turned out the kitten had a tear in its bladder--something I think was caused by the examination given by some young, inept assist. vets at Banfield. The vet performed surgery on the animal to save it. Fortunately, the surgery was a success. I called Banfield immediately the cancel the Plan and was told I was locked in because I did not call soon enough. After trying to reason with the rude person on the phone and asking for a manager, they finally hung up on me.

It took me 2 years to get my insurance cancelled. I called when it was too late as well, however, they told me that they would put my account on a "Do Not Renew" list so that it would cancel on the next renewal. Guess what? Didn't happen, so, they refused to cancel it again because I was too late. I had 2 dogs, one's plan is finally cancelled, the other one is set to cancel in November. You can bet that I am on the phone checking that the cancellation WILL happen this time in November! Worst company I have ever dealt with...spread the word to every pet owner you know!!
