I had not heard about pet insurance until after our Guinea Pig, Squeaker, was very ill and had to be treated for liver failure. Unfortunately, Squeaker did not make it and we had large vet bills to cover all by ourselves. When we got our dog, Clay, a corgi, we immediately got pet insurance. I looked at several options at the time (that was 5 years ago) and VPI had the best pricing for the coverage we wanted. I've been satisfied with the reimbursement always but recently Clay tore a ligament in his knee and had to have surgery. It was stressful for all involved but it made it much easier knowing that at least half the bill would be covered. I believe the final reimbursement was about 60% or so. Clay would have had the surgery anyway, it was just heartwrenching to see him limping but knowing that the entire bill wasn't our responsibility made it a bit easier. VPI was very easy to work with on our questions and i've never had a customer service rep that wasn't polite and understanding. I recommend pet insurance to all my pet owning friends and i definitely recommend VPI.
