I bought a plan from PetPlan for my beagle that I rescued from a shelter. All major issues were already paid for when I got the insurance. He got sprayed by a skunk and I decided to see how well they handled the very small claim. They kept saying that they NEVER received the faxes that I sent them from the vet. A month went by and I kept hearing nothing from them about my claim. I finally threatened to file a claim with the attorney generals office and they suddenly found my claim. 3 weeks later and nothing, no check. More emails to them and 2 weeks later I received my check for $27 and some change. All this over a small legitimate claim...look somewhere else.

To all of you who've mocked the original reviewer for having taken their dog to the vet after being skunked, are you aware that some dogs can have an allergic response to the liquid? Or that the spray itself is quite caustic, and can be damaging if the spray enters the eyes? Or that ingested, such as when a dog is sprayed in the mouth, it will cause drooling, vomiting, and gagging, and can be a life-threatening situation in a dog with respiratory problems such as asthma or pulmonary disease?
Never mind that the insurer didn't seem to have an issue with the claim having been filed--it wasn't denied, it appears to have just been handled in a shoddy manner. In that regard, the original reviewer may well have a valid complaint.

This person should have saved the vets time and taken the animal to a groomer. They would have handled it quickly without an appointment. The vets are very busy with real medical issues.

You filed an insurance claim because your dog got sprayed by a skunk??? Who takes a dog to a Vet. because their dog gets sprayed by a skunk... it's no wonder they lost it... they have claims from families with pets sick or dying with legitimate illnesses and you file a claim because your dog got sprayed... which is actually your fault seeing as the animal is your responsibility to be taking care of in the first place! Go kick yourself... your lack of having any scruples is why insurance rates are through the roof. Filing an insurance claim for a skunk,,, DEFINITELY NOT LEGITIMATE!

If you were sprayed by a skunk would you go to a vet??? I don't think so. If you had any sense you probably wouldn't even go to a doctor. You may call your doctor to inquire about a necessary visit and he would tell you to please keep you stink at home. I've heard the best way to rid the skunk smell is a nice oatmeal bath. Probably works the same for your pet!
Also, threatening to contact the Attorney Generals office would not scare them into making a payment. There is the Bureau of Insurance and the State Corporation Commission for these kinds of disputes. However, they would probably laugh at a $27 dispute.

Never heard of anyone taking a dog to a vet because a skunk sprayed em. I got two words for you son - Tomato Juice.

Hey - I guess the old tomato sauce remedy was past over. Well you know - at a vets office they do upgrade to V8.
