After insuring 2 dogs for many years, I finally submitted a claim. My dog was hobbling around on three legs because of a large painful growth between the pads of his paw. I was referred by my Vet to a board Certified veterinary dermatologist who treated him for 3 months (I never submitted a claim to VPI for this care). After this unsuccessful course of treatment which included my dog having to wear an e-collarfor 3 months I was told that the only hope was surgery. I was referred to a board certified surgeon who thought he could remove the growth an solve the problem. He operated. My dog now walks without difficulty on all four legs. I submitted the surgeon's bill with supporting documentation to VPI. They paid $400 of a $2400 bill. Less than 20%. When I challenged the amount paid they sent me another $100 dollars. VPI insurance was virtually worthless.
