Watchout for BIG increases in rates

We signed up with vetinsurance (now trupanion) 4 years ago at $30/month. They've increased our premium to $55/month over the last four years "due to the vet costs in my region". This month they told me my new premium would be $110 to keep my coverage the same. What's next? $500/month? True, the service is great, claims have always been payed promptly (only about $1500 over 4 years), but the only choice now is to cancel the policy before my dog is old enough to really use it! It's not like vet costs have tripled in my area, watch out- what you sign up for is not what they will ask for in a couple years time!

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, veterinary inflation has averaged 6.8% a year for the last 5 years.
In light of this what possible justification could there be for Trupanion raising premiums from $30/month to $110/month in 4 years!!?? I'm sure the statistics for Canada aren't vastly different.

Is this legal? I guess we have no choice but to cancel. My dog is only 1 yr and a half and I'm going from paying 38.00 to 126.00 a month! I'm not buying that its due to higher vet cost, I have the cheapest vet in Chula Vista, San Diego not La Jolla. They are outrageous and think that suckers like me will pay them triple a month to deepen their pockets because I have a sick dog and am a higher risk to them but of course they won't tell you this. Don't believe them or waste your time, find a better company and do your research!
