I had VPI for my Irish Wolfhound for 9 years from puppy until I lost him. My first mistake was mentioning a visit to the vet for a gastric problem. Anything remotely related wasn't covered. The customer service people were very kind. Someone finally told me to put all my claims on one form. I had no idea I would be dinged $50 per claim (which is my fault for not paying more attention). In the end VPI paid $300 for a $1500 claim (renal). I calculated my premiums over the years. I would have done much better if I had saved the money and only used it for vet bills. Having insurance did give me peace of mind. I'm going with a different insurer for my currents pets.
