Our two year old Akita, named Teddy sufferred a Splenectomy in March of 2009 while at our lake house in upstate New York. Needless to say my wife and I and the vet didn't know what the disorder was. The vet indicated to us that Teddy was fading fast and that he didn't have the high tech diagnostic equipment required to diagnose him. His recommendation was to open him up from chest to stomach and explore. Upon doing this we found that his Splien was enlarged to about 24"x8" and twisted trapping the blood inside and about to rupture. The Vet retained the splien by untwisting it and then placed it back in the cavity. His surgical bill with 5 days of boarding was $2500.00 dollars. I have a $50.00 deductible and no coinsurance so I was paid within 7 days $2450.00. What a fantastic health plan for our Teddy. In the past, prior to Petplan arriving in the US we had insurance with the ASPCA plan that proved to be very limiting while excluding pr-existing conditions. Petplan insures your pet for life.
