this company is a total ripoff and a complete waste of time! My yorkie was diagnosed with hip dysplasia after obtaining insurance, and it was ruled preexisting. I HAD EVEN BOUGHT THE EXTRA COVERAGE FOR HIP DYSPLASIA. This company kicks ya when your down and now i am even more broke than without the insurance. I am going to have to put my dog up for adoption. Thanks Trupanion.

Yes please do provide more information. They are one of the few that offer hip and elbow dysplasia coverage. I purchased this coverage specifically for that coverage. If they are denying claims I would like to know the reason behind the denial. How did they deam it pre existing?
A condition is considered pre-existing if your pet has been diagnosed with, or shown symptoms of a condition prior to your pet insurance coverage start date.
When a new dog or cat enrolls with Trupanion, the coverage is not immediate. There is a 5 day waiting period for accidents and a 30 day illness waiting period for illness coverage. Our policy is based on when the first clinical symptoms are present for an illness or accident and not when a diagnosis is made. Should your dog have shown symptoms either before the coverage was taken out or during your waiting periods, then it would be viewed as pre-existing and not covered. We do have a third party independent review process in case you believe your claim was incorrectly processed. Call us to discuss your options.
Why was it ruled preexisting anon? The policy seems very straight forward. So much so I wonder if I am missing something. Anon, it would be helpful to those of us shopping if you could provide a little more.
I will be back to comment on this one. I am waiting to see what they do with a claim.
