The benefit schedule is skimpy and whether an item submitted is covered is chancy. The worst incident was when my cat had a swollen larynx and was having trouble breathing. The emergency hospital doctor told me that the diagnostic test could be life-threatening and wouldn't change the treatment, so I declined to have it done. VPI covered it with the diagnosis of "laryngitis" at $60. The bill was over $1,000. I challenged that, but after many months of wrangling back and forth they refused to change the reimbursement because I didn't have another diagnosis. I've had several other incidents of having to battle for coverage of an item. I'm fed up and looking for another company.
