I have had VPI for 9 years on both my dogs. I purchased the Basic Plan, because I thought that paying for the Premium Plan was not needed. The Premium Plan paid for the Wellness things. I calculated the extra cost and it came out to be the same if I paid the Vet out of pocket. But, one of my dogs ended up with a Ruptured Disk and after surgery, my bill was almost $6,000.00. VPI's basic plan only covered 1/3 of the cost. If I would have been paying for the more expensive plan, it would have covered 1/2 or more. That would have been more helpful to me. After paying the cost of the insurance every year, I feel with other small claims that I put in for and this big one, I have broke even with the insurance company.
