I decided on Pet Plan after a bad experience with another company. I have had two claims so far- the first was paid fairly and promptly; the second is pending (they are requesting complete records). So far so good. But I am concerned that although their website makes a big deal about "covering your pet for life" the actual written contract states that the policy can be cancelled at any time for any reason. I have talked to them 3 times about this discrepancy and 3 times have been promised a letter that would state " the policy will only be cancelled for non-payment or fraud"; I have yet to receive the communication. I know the dog's exact age but my cats are rescue; the ages given are of course the vets best estimate. I am now concerned given the above review. What have others done about the discrepancy between the promises and the contract? And what happens when you don't know the exact age of a pet?

I would think that if your vet provides his or her best guess in writing, that would be acceptable for the age of your rescues.
hi, unfortunately insurance companies, banks, credit card companies, etc. can always cancel your policy, account or credit for any reason anytime, often with no notice. However this usually does not happen. They are just covering themselves. I wouldn't worry too much. Most pet insurance companies will not even cover pets over age 8, and/or stop covering them when they reach that age or close to it. PetPlan is one of the few who don't do this!
Get your Vet to write a letter stating his best guess on age, that should be sufficient.
I just got a policy and called them about this, as I was concerned too. They said they have never canceled a policy due to a policy holder's pet getting old or to the number of claims submitted. Their coverage for chronic illnesses is better than most.
It should be put in written terms. Unlike banks and credit card companies (as referred to by Kim), insurance coverage into old age is implied- it's often the main reason for purchasing insurance.
