I have a 4-year old mixed breed dog recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, which is very difficult to diagnose. VPI will not pay for the tests used to exclude certain diseases. They only pay for a small fraction of the cost of the tests that are directly related to the eventual diagnosis. So, they paid about 15% of my most recent claim. What happens when you have an animal with a difficult diagnosis? What happens if you never get a diagnosis? You get nothing. Avoid at all costs.

Great to know. My vet also mentioned that this is a problem with some insurance companies. If there is not diagnosis, there is no reimbursement. Ugh.
