We adopted Moonshine, a Chihuahua-mix from the SPCA after our oldest dog died at the age of 16. We had meet & greets with a few other dogs but none of them got along with our second dog Haley, a Rottie-Terrier mix, who is also a rescue. With the adoption we received a 30 day trial of 24PetWatch insurance which I purchased along with a $65 microchip monitoring service. The monthly insurance premium for Moonshine is $62.

The rep told me that there was a 15-day pre-existing condition waiting period but after that, everything would be covered. That statement is the key to my dissatisfaction. Moonshine was rescued from a hoarder who had 25 other animals in a hotel room.

Moonshine had Kennel Cough for which he had been treated while still in the care of the SPCA. About a week after I signed up for the policy he had a relapse. $150 to the vet for treatment & meds. Fine. I understood that wasn't covered.

We had a follow-up appointment one day before the pre-existing condition period expired. He was diagnosed with tapeworms. $200 to the vet. OK, I understood that wasn't covered.

However, two weeks later - after the pre-existing waiting period - Moonshine started with diarrhea which soon turned into just blood. We took him to the vet and, $450 later, were told it was a parasitic issue related to the tapeworms.

I filed a claim with the insurance and, based on what I was told at the time I signed up for the policy, honestly was expecting to get about half of the charges back after the $100 deductible and the 20% out of pocket. The claim was denied due to pre-existing illness!

I tried to call the company and was placed on hold for the better part of 30 minutes waiting for a "claims officer" to assist me. The battery on my phone died so I lost the call. Needless to say, I am furious. I have paid nearly $200 in premiums over the last 3 months plus another $800 in vet fees and not one penny has been reimbursed or even applied to my $100 deductible.

I feel I was lied to from the very beginning. What I was told about this product is not what I have received for my money. Since I apparently have no recourse with 24Pet Watch itself, I'll follow their directive to file a grievance with my state's insurance board.

Don't get swindled into buying this insurance product. It's nothing more than a scam.

I had a very similar experience with this crooked company. Do not buy insurance from them. They are liars and dishonest and over priced.

I had this company for many years with 5 pets at one time. I havve a cat named Ed who came down with a thyroid condition that took a while to get under control. Even though I had continuous coverage for many years for Ed., this company will not pay since it took over 180 days to get my claim in because it was hard to get him controlled
for his thyroid condition. This company stinks and I cancelled all 5 policies with these thieves. My advice is get your insurance somewhere else.
