4 years ago my cat had a horrible blockage that created an enormous vet bill. I barely pulled the money together, and promised I wouldn't ever put myself in a position again where I would consider not giving my pets the treatment they need to survive because of money. So I bought insurance for our cat, and then both of our dogs once they were added to the family. Flash forward to this Saturday, my husband and I found our otherwise healthy cat with an inexplicable broken leg - something we never in a million years planned for. We rushed him to the vet, and the X-rays and screenings alone were $900 and the vet told us our only viable solution was a $4300+ surgery that was needed ideally within the next 72 hours. I'll be honest, I started panicking that for some reason the claim wouldn't be approved and my family wouldn't be able to afford the surgery. I started speaking with Georgia S from PetPlan and told her the urgency of our situation to see if we could make sure the surgery would be approved. She worked diligently for us all morning today while I assembled all of our cat's medical records so that we could expedite our claim from the xrays. She let me know by 1PM that our claim was approved and I was able to get our cat to the surgeon's by 3pm today and hopefully he will be on the mend shortly! Most note worthy to me is how Georgia - and every other rep I have spoken to at PetPlan - has responded with such empathy to the stress and urgency I was under. I'm so used to customer service people being on the defense, that it was especially comforting when I was so stressed about my pet to have someone acknowledge that and help to make it better. As much as I appreciate how this experience went, I genuinely hope I never have to use my pet insurance again, but if I do, I'm glad I have it!
